Live blog: Capitals play Hurricanes on Pride Night

The Washington Capitals are back at Capital One Arena and will take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Pride Night. The Caps will look to break a six-game losing streak at home against the Metropolitan Division’s best team.

The Capitals will get a major boost in their lineup as top-six forward Anthony Mantha will return and play for the first time since early November.

Vitek Vanecek will start.

Tonight’s game is on ESPN Plus though you can listen to John Walton do the call on local radio.

Live blog: Capitals play Leafs on Black History Night

The Washington Capitals are celebrating Black History Night at Capital One Arena. During warmups, the team will wear special black jerseys featuring gold shoulder patches saluting the Fort Dupont Cannons – the country’s oldest minority hockey program.

The Capitals will take on the Leafs and try to end a five-game losing streak at home.

Ilya Samsonov will start in net for the Caps and be backed up Vitek Vanecek, who is suiting up for the first time since February 1. Notably, Anthony Mantha wore a full-contact jersey during the morning skate, but will not play.

Tonight’s game is on NBC Sports Washington.

Live blog: Capitals play Flyers in Saturday matinee

The Washington Capitals are back in Philadelphia to take on the Flyers for the second time in two weeks. The Capitals were outplayed by the Flyers the last time they played but got two points after Garnet Hathaway scored two late goals to push Washington to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory.

Saturday’s rematch is a 12:30 PM matinee at Wells Fargo Center.

“The whole day is turned around,” Hathaway said pregame to NBC Sports Washington when asked what was different. “We had breakfast and then we had pasta right next to the eggs. Some guys like to eat pasta right before the game.”

Ilya Samsonov was tabbed to get the start by head coach Peter Laviolette. Today marks the 274th career time the two teams have played.

Live blog: Capitals return after a week off to face Rangers in nationally televised game

The Washington Capitals are back after a week off to take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Caps will do so with two key veteran players that are making their return from injury.

TJ Oshie, after missing the last 14 games due to an upper-body injury, is back along with defenseman Justin Schultz. Both players skated during every practice this week.

Tonight’s matchup against the Rangers is Washington’s first since beating New York 5-1 on Opening Night. Alex Ovechkin had four points (2g 2a) in that blowout victory.

Live blog: Capitals play Flyers at Wells Fargo Center looking for two straight W’s

The Washington Capitals are in Philly to take on the lowly Flyers. The Capitals are coming off a 4-1 victory against the Nashville Predators, which sounds way more dominant than it actually was.

Ilya Samsonov will start in net opposite Martin Jones. Michal Kempny will jump back into the lineup as Justin Schultz sits with an upper-body injury.

Live blog: Capitals fly to Music City to take on Predators

The Washington Capitals have lost three of their last four games against some pretty underwhelming opponents. They will look to turn it around in Nashville, a place they are notoriously not great at, to try and get head coach Peter Laviolette win number 700.

Heading into tonight’s game, the Capitals’ first line of Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Tom Wilson have been put back together. Ilya Samsonov will start in goal and be opposite Juuse Saros.

Live blog: Capitals take on Canadiens north of the border without Ovechkin

The Washington Capitals are up in Canada tonight to play the league-worst Montreal Canadiens who have lost 13 of their last 14. Tonight is a crossroads game for the Habs as it’s the first game for new coach Martin St. Louis.

The Capitals have lost 10 out of their last 15 games and are without Alex Ovechkin tonight due to Canadian COVID protocol.

Ilya Samsonov is making the start for the Caps.

Live blog: Alex Ovechkin returns as Capitals take on Blue Jackets

Alex Ovechkin is officially back, jack. Cleared from COVID, Ovi will return to first-line duty against tonight’s opponents, the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With the All-Star Break officially over, the Capitals will now try to improve from their seventh-place position in the East after slumping mightily in December and January. The Capitals power-play, which is one of the worst in the league, will see if it can improve with Lars Eller installed on the first unit.

Pheonix Copley will get his first start in the NHL tonight in three seasons over Ilya Samsonov.

Live blog: Capitals take on Oilers without Alex Ovechkin

The Washington Capitals will officially finish their slate of games before the All-Star Break tonight after playing the Edmonton Oilers. And warning: The Caps may have weary, tired legs after playing a barnburner of a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins the night before. Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers and superstar Connor McDavid are rested.

The Caps will also be without Alex Ovechkin, who entered COVID protocol earlier in the day and will miss both tonight’s game and the 2022 All-Star Game.

Ilya Samsonov will start while Pheonix Copley will back him up.

Live blog: Capitals take on Penguins at PPG Paints Arena

The Washington Capitals are almost entirely healthy — except on its right wing — as it heads into this weekend’s All-Star Break. The Capitals will renew their rivalry with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the third time this season tonight. Per the Capitals PR, the Capitals have split the season series 1-1 and have outscored Pittsburgh 8-5. The Capitals have earned points in seven of their last 10 games against Pittsburgh (3-3-4).

Defenseman Nick Jensen makes his grand return to the lineup after missing four games due to injury. Vitek Vanecek will be back in net.
