Live blog: Capitals have chance to get out of 2WC with win against Golden Knights

The Washington Capitals have won six of their last seven games and with another dub tonight, they can get out of the dreaded second wild card spot (where they’d play the Florida Panthers).

Tonight the Capitals face the Vegas Golden Knights in game four of their five-game road trip. Vegas needs this W to stay in contention for a playoff spot, meaning this game should be pretty intense. Keyword: should.

Ilya Samsonov will jump back into net for the Capitals. Tonight’s game is on NBC Sports Washington.

Live blog: Capitals vs Avalanche in what could be a barn burner

The Washington Capitals are back after consecutive 8-4 games (1 win, 1 loss) to take on the Colorado Avalanche who have the best record in the league (116 standings points) and scored the third-most goals (294). Watch this game be low-scoring.

Peter Laviolette tinkered with his lines again during the morning skate, reuniting the TKO line. Ilya Samsonov will get the start in net.

Live blog: Caps look for redemption against Habs

It’s a Hockey Night In Canada! The Washington Capitals take on the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre tonight days after one of their worst losses of the season – a 7-3 throttling by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Dmitry Orlov will get back in the lineup after missing the last two games due to a lower-body injury. Meanwhile, the lines are, uhhhhh, definitely something Peter Laviolette came up with that he thinks is good.

Vitek Vanecek is back in the seemingly revolving net that no one wants to claim for the Capitals.

Live blog: Capitals take on Leafs as Auston Matthews goes for 60 goals

Since having a players-only meeting after consecutive shellackings against the Hurricanes and Wild, the Washington Capitals have won four-straight games and outscored the opposition 23 to 10. The streak includes victories over the Lightning, Penguins, and Bruins — all ahead of the Caps in the East standings (though avoiding a matchup against Florida in the first round remains unlikely).

Tonight, the Capitals get another big test in the Toronto Maple Leafs who recently clinched a playoff spot and already have 100 points on the season. The Leafs sport the best goal-scorer in the game currently, Auston Matthews, who will be looking to become the first player in a decade to hit 60 goals.

The Capitals will be WITH Evgeny Kuznetsov and WITHOUT Dmitry Orlov during the game after both missed the morning skate.

Live blog: Dmitry Orlov-less Capitals take on lowly Flyers

The Washington Capitals have won three games in a row all against teams that will be in the Eastern Conference playoff bracket in a few weeks. Now they will try to extend that streak against a team not so fortunate in the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Caps will suit up without one of their top defenseman in Dmitry Orlov as he is out with a lower-body injury.

Every point is huge for the Capitals right now as they look to escape the second Wild Card spot and an almost for sure matchup with the powerhouse Florida Panthers. They are still four points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for third in the Metropolitan Division with two games in hand.

Live blog: Capitals take on Bruins a day after big win against Penguins

The Washington Capitals authored a thrilling 6-3 win over their biggest rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, on Saturday. Now they will try to do it again a day later against the team that ousted them in last year’s postseason, the Boston Bruins.

The Capitals will suit up without second-line center Nicklas Backstrom who is out due to [gestures at everything] “body maintenance” per the team.

Today’s game is big, big, big for both teams (see the standings). Boston is fighting to stay out of the first wild card position in the East, while the Capitals could pull within two points of the Pittsburgh Penguins for third place in the Metropolitan Division with one game in hand after today. Passing the Penguins would get the Capitals out of the second wildcard spot where they’d likely match up against the Florida Panthers. So yeah, do that. That’d be good!

Live blog: Flagging Capitals take on 2x defending champion Lightning on Go Green Night

The Washington Capitals are back at home (where they’re 5-11 in their last 16 home games) and will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning on Go Green Night. The event is sponsored by the propane company Suburban Propane. The team rocked green jerseys during warmups that were St. Patrick’s Day-themed.

The Capitals will be without Garnet Hathaway who is out with a non-COVID illness. Connor McMichael will get back into the lineup and skate at his natural center position on the third line.

Ilya Samsonov will start in net as the Capitals’ goalie competition has reopened (again).

Live blog: Capitals take on Wild after five-day break

It’s the overly rested versus the overly tired tonight.

The Washington Capitals are back on home ice after a pseudo bye week to take on the Minnesota Wild. The Wild are coming off a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday. Capitals trade deadline target, Marc-Andre Fleury, will not start in net for the Wild, which honestly is a tragedy.

Meanwhile, Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette put together some ~~kinda bad~~ new lines during the morning skate and decided to bench one of his best players lately, Connor McMichael. But hey, Johan Larsson is making his Caps debut tonight.

The Washington Capitals take on the on the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at Capitals One Arena. It’s the team’s last game for six days so enjoy it.

Live blog: Capitals face Devils on N1KY Night

The Washington Capitals broke their two-game losing streak against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday, thanks to a big night from Alex Ovechkin and his alter ego Ovi The Goalie. Now the Capitals will try to win both games of their back-to-back against the New Jersey Devils.
