Live blog: Capitals going with 11F, 7D again against Sabres

After losing two straight games by a combined score of 8-4 this week, your Washington Capitals are back in action tonight against the Buffalo Sabres in the first half of a weekend back-to-back series.

The Capitals will once again go with seven defensemen and 11 forwards tonight as Nic Dowd is a late scratch. With Matt Irwin getting only 29 seconds of game time last game, we must wonder which defenseman will Peter Laviolette infinity bench tonight? Ilya Samsonov will get the start.

RMNB’s Trade Deadline Day EXTRAVAGANZA live blog: Mojo (Not Mantha) edition

It’s last call for teams adding to their NHL rosters for the stretch run.

At 3 PM today, the NHL will permit no more trades between teams. Non-playoff teams, aka sellers, will want to get all the value they can out of expiring contracts, and playoff-aspiring teams, aka buyers, will try to fill whatever holes that they deem they have or just stack up additional depth.

We’ll keep track of everything that goes on for the rest of today. Join us, won’t you?

Live blog: Oshie out as Tired Capitals take on Tired Hurricanes in second game of back-to-back

MOAR hockey. The Washington Capitals are playing the Carolina Hurricanes 24 hours after destroying the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-2 on Thursday. Alex Ovechkin scored goal number 768 and Conor Sheary tallied a very early empty netter in the third period.

Against Carolina, the Capitals will be without TJ Oshie, who suffered his second lower-body injury of the season against Columbus. In comes Mike Vecchione, who will skate with Nicklas Backstrom and Anthony Mantha on the second line.

Ilya Samsonov will make the start for the Capitals in net.

Live blog: Capitals hit the road to take on Blue Jackets

The Washington Capitals are back on the ice Thursday to play their first game of a back-to-back series against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Friday they take on the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh.

The Capitals will role with the same lines they went with against the Islanders on Tuesday.

Vitek Vanecek will get the start.

Live blog: Capitals play the Islanders on Military Night, Ovi goes for third on goals list

The Washington Capitals are back at Capital One Arena for a short pitstop at home before hitting the road for two games later this week. The Capitals are hosting the New York Islanders for Military Night.

The game will mark Alex Ovechkin’s third opportunity to try and overtake Jaromir Jagr for third all-time on the NHL’s goals list. Stuck on 766 goals, Ovechkin will try to score the milestone goal on fellow Russian Semyon Varlamov. Pregame, Barry Trotz predicted Ovechkin would eventually overtake Wayne Gretzky’s goals record, explaining succinctly that he would do so because “Russian machine never breaks.”

Tonight’s game marks the first time Zdeno Chara has returned as a visiting player since leaving the Capitals over the offseason.

Live blog: Capitals take on Canucks as Ovechkin tries to pass Jagr

It’s a Washington Capitals game day! (And by game day, I mean, a late-night west coast weekend game that almost all of you, except the most hardcore of the hardcore, are going to stay up for.)

The Capitals will keep their lines mostly the same for the Canucks except for one change: Conor Sheary has been flipped up to the first line while Tom Wilson will skate on the third. Vitek Vanecek will get the start.

Live blog: Capitals versus Oilers on national TV

Don’t look now but the Washington Capitals are on a mini winning streak. The Capitals have won their last three games via a resurgent offense that has scored 14 goals in the process. Tonight the Capitals travel to Edmonton where they’ll play the Oilers in their second game in as many nights.

The lineups is the exact same as last night except for one thing: Ilya Samsonov will start over Vitek Vanecek.

Tonight’s game is on TNT. No Joe B or Locker. 🙁
