One period wonder: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals put their game with the New York Rangers to bed after the first twenty minutes, netting four goals on fifteen shots and chasing young Alexandar Georgiev from his net. That first period effort was enough to earn the Caps a 4-2 win in regulation and maintain their lead in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division.

The Caps out-shot the Rangers 33 to 30, but were out-attempted by the blueshirts at five-on-five 51 to 36.

Caps at Rangers pregame: Are they home yet?

The Washington Capitals are still on the road as they visit Madison Square Garden and their old pals the New York Rangers. The two Metro Division teams will go head-to-head in a matchup that usually features a handsome-off between Braden Holtby and Henrik Lundqvist, but you’ll get neither of those two dudes tonight as Philipp Grubauer and Alex Georgiev man the cages.

We have a 7:30 PM start on NBCSN. Peter will be your recapper.

Goals galore: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals downed the Montreal Canadiens 6-4 in a game where offense was king and defense was forgotten for large stretches of the action.

The Caps out-shot the Canadiens 30 to 21 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 43 to 36.

Offense, offense, and some more offense: Caps beat Canadiens 6-4

The famed Bell Centre is always a fantastic venue for a hockey game and the Washington Capitals met the Montreal Canadiens there tonight in an Eastern Conference battle. The Caps offense took advantage of a very banged up, very bad Habs team.

Alex Galchenyuk capitalized on a defensive zone giveaway to open the scoring. Evgeny Kuznetsov in his first game back from injury tied things up on the power play. Tom Wilson struck twice in quick succession to give the Caps the lead.

Jay Beagle tapped home his seventh of the season to extend the advantage further. Charles Hudon put in a high deflection with one second left in the second period. Kuznetsov added another power play marker in the third and TJ Oshie deflected one more home. Hudon again. Drouin added a late one.

Caps beat Canadiens 6-4!

Thank your goalie: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals eked out a win over the Detroit Red Wings, but it didn’t really seem like they ever truly wanted the two points. Philipp Grubauer was once again fantastic, earning a shutout victory on a night where the rest of his teammates didn’t bother to show up.

The Red Wings out-shot the Caps 39 to 26 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 53 to 34.

Capitals sign prospect Tobias Geisser to three-year entry-level contract

On June 24 in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft the Capitals drafted huge Swiss defenseman Tobias Geisser with their fourth round pick. Geisser, who stands at 6-foot-4, is a left shooting defenseman who has played professionally for EV Zug of the National League, the top league in Switzerland, since 2016.

The big Swiss blueliner put up six points in 38 games for EV Zug this season. He also featured in five games for Switzerland in this past World Junior Classic in Buffalo, where he was named a top-three player on the team.

Caps at Red Wings pregame: Motown showdown

Tonight the Washington Capitals return to Detroit after beating the Red Wings in overtime at Little Caesars Arena in late October. Mike Green and the boys are amidst an unsuccessful season where their main focus will be on the draft lottery rather than the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Caps look to keep pace with their Metro Division challengers.

Dallas has been deleted: numbers for the morning after

Wonderful! The Washington Capitals and Dallas Stars meeting in DC usually means only one thing for Caps fans, more sadness and despair. Some would say that’s just our normal state of being, but that’s for another time.

Alas, the Caps 0-5-1 record in their last 6 home games against the Stars has been thrown out the window because the Caps did the thing and we got to go to sleep happy.

The Caps out-shot the Stars 32 to 27, but the Stars out-attempted the Caps at five-on-five 42 to 38.
