Today we set our sights on yet another former Toronto Maple Leaf who could fit the Capitals’ plans this summer. Brad Boyes, a veteran of 14 NHL seasons and a former 40-goal scorer is coming off a year in which he made Toronto out of camp on a professional tryout contract after he was bought out by the Florida Panthers. Is he a fit for the Caps? I can already hear the shrieks of “No!” coming from Facebook, but let’s evaluate him before we make a decision.

It’s Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau‘s turn to get assessed as a free agent fit for the Capitals. Most recently of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Parenteau would be my personal pick to replace Jason Chimera as one of the wings on the third line. If you were on the #PAPtoDC bandwagon at the trade deadline then this is obviously the post for you.

Tuesday, Washington Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan held a conference call with the media from Las Vegas, where the 2016 NHL Awards are taking place. MacLellan touched on his plans for the Caps’ restricted free agents, his thoughts on hockey coming to Vegas, and his worries about the upcoming expansion draft.
MacLellan also talked at length about current restricted free agent Marcus Johansson and what the current plans are in regards to contract talks with the Swede and his agent. MacLellan said that he was “optimistic” about the negotiations, but that some of the comparables for Johansson may have a higher salary than they are comfortable with.

What if I told you there was a 28-year-old, former 34-goal scorer available this offseason for third line money or even less? You’d probably snap my hand off at the chance to get him on the Caps roster for next season. That is until you realize that, that marquee season happened six seasons ago and said player hasn’t come close to replicating that kind of success since. This is the curious case of former Maple Leaf, Islander and Canuck, Michael Grabner.

Justin Williams came to DC to fill out the Capitals top six and provide the postseason scoring that the former Conn Smythe Trophy winner has been known for. Unfortunately, ‘Mr. Game Seven’ didn’t even play in a Game Seven, but that doesn’t mean Williams’ first season in DC was any sort of failure.

John Carlson had a very bumpy 2015-16 season as he struggled with injury for the first time in his career as an NHL defenseman. Almost anyone at the start of last October would have told you that Carlson was the Capitals number one defenseman, but is that still the case now?

First off, apologies for the lack of liveblog last game, I was in attendance for the Game Five victory. We’re back!
The Caps need to win in Pittsburgh tonight to force a Game Seven back home at the Verizon Center.That feat is something they have actually done recently in the postseason, as the 2009 team won Game Six in Pittsburgh on the back of a David Steckel overtime goal.
Brooks Orpik is back in the lineup and I am not excited about it. Pat wrote about Evgeny Kuznetsov’s play this playoffs, so let’s hope he has a break out game points-wise tonight and makes him look real smart.
