The Washington Capitals traveled to the great white north to challenge the Western Conference’s Winnipeg Jets to a game of hit puck with stick. Matty P and the Jets would show the league how to turn a sure loss into a shocking win as they downed the Caps 4-3 in overtime.
The Jets out-shot the Caps 44 to 27 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 56 to 40.

The Washington Capitals salvaged a point from a 5-4 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings in a game that most thought was over after a horrendous second period from the DC home team. Not a good performance.
The Red Wings out-shot the Capitals 29 to 27 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 48 to 33.

The Caps completed a home-and-home with Metro-Division foe, the Columbus Blue Jackets and came out of the two games with maximum success. Four points in the standings and two regulation victories racked up after the Caps took down the Jackets 4-2 at Capital One Arena Friday night.
The Blue Jackets out-shot the Caps 37 to 17 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 56 to 41. If games were won on calculators Columbus would be really happy with the past two fixtures.

The Washington Capitals escaped Columbus with a 3-2 victory thanks to a milestone goal from Nicklas Backstrom and the goaltending of Braden Holtby. The good guys avoided the final cannon shot, but unfortunately the entirety of the crowd in attendance was still deafened.
The Blue Jackets out-shot the Caps 39 to 25 and out-attempted the Caps at five-on-five 56 to 44.

Friday night, the Washington Capitals took a rough 7-4 beating at the hands of their regular nemesis, the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was not a good night at PPG Paints Arena.
The Pens out-shot the Caps 39 to 33 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 49 to 46.

As you may know, the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins are very familiar with one another. The match up is one that has brought a lot of sadness to Caps fans for decades now, but it’s also a match up that always features some pretty insane star power.
Which Metropolitan Division rival would break the 1-1 season series deadlock?
Phil Kessel had a slam dunk to open the scoring, Christian Djoos gifted another to Carl Hagelin, but Alex Ovechkin would grab one himself before the end of the first.
Patric Hornqvist opened the second with a quick power play salvo. Dmitry Orlov responded with one of his own at even strength. Evgeny Kuznetsov completed the Russian scoring trifecta moments later.
Evgeni Malkin opened the third with a goal and then seconds later Ovechkin would tally his second of the game. Bryan Rust restored the Pittsburgh lead on a power play, Kessel then would add to said lead, as would Malkin.
Penguins beat Caps 7-4.

Wednesday night, the Washington Capitals topped their Metro-Division rival Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 in a game that saw a few important forwards breakout of some lengthy scoring slumps and Michal Neuvirth chased from the Philly net.
The Flyers out-shot the Caps 30 to 25, but the five-on-five shot attempts were locked up at 43 apiece.

On Wednesday, the Capitals unveiled the uniforms they will wear in Annapolis on March 3 for the 2018 Stadium Series game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The fan reaction to said uniforms has been mixed. Some like it just fine, some hate the Caps word mark as the central logo, some don’t like the color scheme.
One fan who wasn’t too fond of the uni was Twitter user @KP8Design, who just so happens to be a talented hockey jersey designer. He has released two alternatives to what the Caps will wear in March.

Friday night, the Washington Capitals lost their second-consecutive game, falling to the Montreal Canadiens 3-2. The loss was the second for the team since coming back from their scheduled bye week. The last time the Caps lost two in a row was around Christmas time from December 22 to December 27 (3-2 loss to Coyotes, 3-0 loss to Golden Knights, 1-0 loss to Rangers).
That December losing stretch spurred Head Coach Barry Trotz to reshape his forward lines and it looks like this most recent one will as well.
