Shutout Sammy: Caps beat Devils 4-0

The Washington Capitals took the first half of a back-to-back against the New Jersey Devils last night in DC. Could they complete the two-game sweep and would their Russian superstars stay hot?

Alex Ovechkin received a beautiful pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov to open the scoring. Nicklas Backstrom got some of the same from Tom Wilson to double the lead. Conor Sheary sniped the Caps to a three-goal lead in the third. Ovi got his second of the night on a one-timer.

Caps vs Devils pregame: Another one, please

If you wanted some more New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals action, you’re in luck because they are back at it again this evening! The Caps are 8-1 in their last nine games and are hoping to add another win to their 5-0-0 streak against the Devils this season.

Something else I would also like to see again, other than a Caps win? An Alex Ovechkin goal. He has seven goals in his past seven games. I am greedy and I need another.

The puck will be dropping at 7 PM and Chris will have your recap.

Nullifying New Jersey: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals returned from their four-day break and immediately disposed of the New Jersey Devils for the fifth time this season. The Caps got a bunch of quick response goals from their Russians en route to the 4-3 victory.

The Devils outshot the Caps 24 to 22 but were out-attempted at five-on-five 45 to 44.

Russian night in DC: Caps beat Devils 4-3

After a trillion days off, the Washington Capitals played their first game since the late eighties, beating the New Jersey Devils in a stifled but successful outing.

Someone named Nick Merkley scored the first goal of the game after Vitek Vanecek served up a massive giveaway. No worries though, as Dmitry Orlov 🇷🇺 pinged a goal off the far post two minutes later. Miles Wood restored the Devils lead with a zero-angle goal, but Alex Ovechkin 🇷🇺 put them back in a tie less than a minute later. Evgeny Kuznetsov’s 🇷🇺 fourth of the season gave the Caps a bit later.

After a somewhat soft call on Nick Jensen in the third period, Jesper Bratt tied the game on a Devils power play. Once last time, the Capitals responded promptly, with Kuznetsov recording the game winner and his second goal of the night with a tip-in up front.

Caps win!

Caps vs Devils pregame: Back at it

After a four-day break that felt more like forty days, the Washington Capitals are primed to get right back into the action against the New Jersey Devils tonight in DC.

They’ll drop the vulcanized disk of rubber at 7 PM and Peter is on your recap.

What in the Sam Hill: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals took a commanding 4-1 lead over the New Jersey Devils and then totally wrapped the game up with a nice bow…right? Nope. In one of the more bizarre recent Caps games, they completely capitulated in regulation and were forced to come up with an overtime winner from Jakub Vrana to secure a 5-4 win.

The Devils outshot the Caps 31 to 30 but were out-attempted at five-on-five by the screaming eagle-clad boys 47 to 36.

Collapsitals beat Devils 5-4 in overtime

The Washington Capitals played a perfectly perplexing game against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. The Caps took an early lead, but bad defensive decisions and some kind of acute allergy to offense blew it for them in the third.

TJ Oshie scored the only goal of the first period, deftly deflecting Justin Schultz’s shot. Jakub Vrana finished off a beautiful four-on-four passing sequence for his ninth of the season. Daniel Sprong had the gosh-darn temerity to not pass to Ovi on an odd-man rush to make it 2-0. Then Janne Kuokkanen faced some criminally defective defense to crack the shutout, but Dmitry Orlov replied, making it 4-1 after forty minutes.

In the third, Miles Wood had a ton of steam as he took a pass from Jesper Bratt to beat Vanecek, then Yegor Sharangovich had an open lane to bring the Devils within one. Damon Severson tied it and took us to overtime. That’s where Jakub Vrana got back on the ice and won it.

Caps vs Devils pregame: Pit stop

The Capitals have journeyed home for a quick stop to host the New Jersey Devils. The team is, of course, still without Tom Wilson but will keep Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, and TJ Oshie on the top line together. The good guys will be the ones in the snazzy reverse retro jerseys.

Back-to-back sweep: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals went into Newark, New Jersey for a back-to-back with the Devils and came away with all four points. A successful Sunday saw the return of Ilya Samsonov and a 3-2 Caps win.

The Caps outshot the Devils 23 to 21 but were out-attempted at five-on-five 41 to 34.

Sammy’s successful return: Caps beat Devils 3-2

The Washington Capitals have hit a bit of a stride in terms of good play and looked to continue down that path as they took on the New Jersey Devils for the second time in two days. Could they complete the weekend sweep?

Mikhail Maltsev opened scoring with a wrister that ramped up off Dmitry Orlov’s stick past Ilya Samsonov on the short-side. Jakub Vrana has goals in two straight after he fired home his own rebound to tie the game at one. Nicklas Backstrom looking for his 700th career assist instead found the back of the net with his own shot. Yegor Sharangovich wristed one through the body of Samsonov to tie the game once more.

Alex Ovechkin sniped one past a disbelieving MacKenzie Blackwood to restore the Caps lead and ended up the game winner.

Caps beat Devils 3-2!
