Martin Brodeur helped design the New Jersey Devils’ new third jerseys

Martin Brodeur is a Hockey Hall of Famer, commercial actor, and business executive. The goaltender is not a graphic designer, illustrator, or marketer in any way. Yet the Devils gave Marty an oversized role in the design process of their first third jersey in its 47-year team history.

Tuesday, the Devils unveiled the new sweater and it’s both simple and different. But it’s up to you, the reader, if it’s ultimately successful.

Top six remain blazing hot on the road: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals got after it again on Thursday night in New Jersey. The Devils didn’t beat the Capitals a single time in eight tries last season and that streak will continue.

The Caps used a fast start en route to an easy 4-1 victory on the road for the first time this season.

Rockin’ and rollin’ on the road: Capitals beat Devils 4-1

The Washington Capitals traveled for the first and only time this season to New Jersey to take on the Devils. The Caps swept all eight games against the Devils last season.

Anthony Mantha parked his big frame in front and backhanded home a pass from Daniel Sprong to open the scoring. Dmitry Orlov joined in on the backhand party scoring one of his own off an Alex Ovechkin rebound. Daniel Sprong finished off a breakaway for his first of the season.

Evgeny Kuznetsov was at it again, his goal was the Caps fourth and final. Devils got a garbage time power play marker.

The Washington Capitals will play their fourth game of the preseason on Monday. The Caps will travel to New Jersey to take on the Devils. It’s their second of three straight on the road.

Alex Ovechkin will not be suiting up.

Highlights from the Capitals’ 5-4 preseason loss to the Devils

The Washington Capitals lost to the New Jersey Devils 5-4 in their second game of the preseason.

John Carlson scored twice for the Capitals while Hendrix Lapierre collected another two assists. The Capitals’ 2020 first-round pick now has four points in his first two professional games.

Ilya Samsonov surrendered two goals in the third period, his only action of the game. Dawson Mercer beat him from no angle while Nico Hischier deked past him with a little over a minute to go in the third for the game-winning goal. Michal Kempny was no the ice for the Devils’ first two goals of the night. It was Kemps’ first NHL game since early 2020 due to injury.

The Capitals and Devils held a shootout after the game, which the Devils also won. With the loss, the Capitals fell to 0-2 in the preseason.

Jonas Siegenthaler looking forward to DC return, credits Brooks Orpik as role model

The Washington Capitals traded Jonas Siegenthaler to the New Jersey Devils for a third-round pick at last season’s trade deadline. Siegenthaler had asked the Caps to try and find a new home for him after Zdeno Chara’s arrival in DC saw the young Swiss defender sitting in the press box for a majority of games. In one of the games Siegenthaler played in, Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette utilized him as a seventh defenseman and put him through the indignity of playing only one shift.

Now, Siegenthaler will be making his first return to the District since the move. The Devils are playing the Capitals in their preseason debut Wednesday night at Capital One Arena.

Devils prospect Nikita Popugaev announces retirement to become a social media influencer

Nikita Popugaev was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round of the 2017 NHL Draft. After playing three seasons of junior hockey, he spent two seasons with two separate KHL teams, bounced around the Devils’ ECHL and AHL affiliates, and then returned overseas to play for two more KHL teams.

Popugaev, most recently of Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik in the KHL, announced on Monday that he was retiring from professional hockey in pursuit of becoming a social media influencer.

Jonas Siegenthaler signs two-year deal with New Jersey Devils

Former Capitals defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler re-signed with the New Jersey Devils on Friday. The Swiss defenseman is getting a raise from the Devils despite playing in only 15 games total last season.

Siegenthaler, who was a restricted free agent, signed a two-year contract with New Jersey worth $2.25 million ($1.125M cap hit). Siegs will make $1.05M in 2021-22 and $1.2M in 2022-23. It’s a $205k raise from his salary in 2019-20.
