Capitals trade Jonas Siegenthaler to New Jersey Devils for third-round pick

The Washington Capitals made their first move ahead of Monday’s 3 PM trade deadline. The Capitals sent young defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler to the New Jersey Devils for a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

The Capitals lose a depth defenseman that has promise but gain salary cap relief to either add another piece on Monday or possibly welcome a player back to the lineup off long-term injured reserve such as Michal Kempny.

Islanders land Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac from Devils for prospects and picks

The Washington Capitals and New York Islanders are tied for first place in the East Division after the Isles defeated the Caps 1-0 Tuesday at Nassau Coliseum. A night later, the Islanders have made a major trade deadline deal that will give them some much-needed forward depth after losing Anders Lee for the season with a knee injury.

The Islanders acquired Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac from the New Jersey Devils for prospects and picks (forwards A.J. Greer, Mason Jobst, the Islanders first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.)

The Devils agreed to retain 50 percent of both Palmieri and Zajac’s salaries to make the deal happen.

Sweeping Satan: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals completed their season series sweep of the New Jersey Devils after a 5-4 effort on Easter Sunday. The victory wrapped up all 16 available points the Caps could take from the Devs in 2021.

The Devils outshot the Caps 39 to 19 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 54 to 29.

Capitals become 13th team in NHL history to defeat same opponent 8 times in a single season

The Washington Capitals played kinda bad, but still managed to achieve a franchise first against the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.

The Capitals won 5-4 and swept New Jersey in their season series, defeating them all eight times they played (WSH: 8-0-0, NJD: 0-6-2). That’s a new franchise record.

You could say Washington bedeviled the Devils this season. 👀

Eked it out on Easter: Caps beat Devils 5-4

The Washington Capitals met with the New Jersey Devils for the final time this season, looking to sweep all eight scheduled matchups. Could the Devs stem the embarrassment?

Travis Zajac was left wide open in the slot and made no mistake to open the scoring. TJ Oshie went hard to the cage and finished deftly over the shoulder of Blackwood to tie the game. Conor Sheary got some puck luck to give the Caps their first lead. Alex Ovechkin slammed home a loose puck on a power play to extend the lead.

Yegor Sharangovich shot through a screen to bring the Devils back into the game. Carl Hagelin struck shorthanded after Garnet Hathaway set him up splendidly. Evgeny Kuznetsov slid home the Caps fifth goal off a slick feed from Ovechkin. Jesper Bratt capitalized on some nonsense behind the Caps net to cut the deficit to two again. Travis Zajac got their fourth.

Caps beat Devils 5-4!

Caps at Devils pregame: Going for the season sweep

The Washington Capitals have won their last seven games against the New Jersey Devils. Today they will play the Devils for an eighth and final time.

Doing more damage to the Devils: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals continued their absolute ownage of the New Jersey Devils and bounced back from their worst loss of the season with an overtime victory 2-1. It took an extra frame but two points feel great after the display Thursday night.

The Caps outshot the Devils 40 to 23 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 46 to 44.

Orlov in overtime: Caps beat Devils 2-1

One day after a brutal loss, the Washington Capitals regrouped to play a solid if unspectacular hour and change against the New Jersey Devils.

After a scoreless first period, John Carlson used some screens to beat Mackenzie Blackwood. Michael McLeod returned fire with a rush goal and a tasty rebound to beat Vitek Vanecek. The third period changed the score not at all, so we went to overtime.

Overtime was actually fun, capped off by a gorgeous finish by Dmitry Orlov.

Caps win!

The Washington Capitals have headed to New Jersey to play their final two games against the Devils. The game that took place last night against the Islanders was an April Fools joke. I’m not going to hear any other opinions on the matter.

Another one: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals took both games in a back-to-back with the New Jersey Devils and catapulted themselves back atop the East Division. The second game was a much more dominant one as the Caps came away with a 4-0 victory.

The Caps outshot the Devils 31 to 24.
