The NHL made a long-rumored project official on Wednesday.

In conjunction with the retailer Fanatics, the NHL will release one new special-edition jersey for each team as part of the Hometown Remix program. While the league promises more information after the 2026-27 season begins on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, there is no official drop date for the new sweaters as of yet. The NHL also says new Hometown Remix apparel and headwear will be released for all 32 teams.

Per the NHL:

For the upcoming 2026-27 season, the NHL and Fanatics will introduce Hometown Remix – the first 32-team special edition uniform, apparel and headwear program designed and developed by Fanatics since becoming the league’s authentic on-ice uniform outfitter in 2024.

The Hometown Remix collection will be anchored by special edition uniforms that uniquely and authentically celebrates the fans, city, and local culture of each team.

More information on the Hometown Remix program – which spans on-ice uniforms, authentic and replica jerseys, and a broad apparel and headwear collection for every team – will follow shortly after the season begins.

The new jersey initiative was first unearthed in early January, when a Redditor — who claimed to work for a hockey retailer — shared that a listing appeared in their inventory for a league-wide alternate jersey for the 2026-27 season. Further digging saw that Fanatics filed a trademark on the phrase “Hometown Remix” in February of 2025, covering a wide swath of clothing and apparel including jerseys, t-shirts, headware, and scarves. The new collection may be the NHL’s response to the NBA’s City Edition and MLB’s City Connect jersey programs, as well as Fanatics’ own take on Adidas’s wildly popular Reverse Retro jerseys.

So far, the Hometown Remix jerseys for the New York Islanders and the Florida Panthers may have leaked after fans spotted two youth hockey jerseys listed for sale on eBay that had never-before-seen designs.

Both sweaters had an inverted, embroidered NHL shield (silver with black outlines), which will likely be the standard across the Hometown Remix jersey drop. The Reverse Retro shields had a vintage orange detailing.

Per Icethetics, the Washington Capitals are expected to utilize powder blue as their Hometown Remix jersey’s base color but details beyond that — like the crest or shoulder patch logos — have not been revealed.

The Capitals utilized the blue color in their 90s-era Screaming Eagle Jerseys worn from 1995 until 2000.
