The NHL is apparently rolling out a new league-wide jersey initiative with Fanatics next season, and every team will sport a new alternate jersey.
Dubbed the Hometown Remix, rumors began on January 2 when a Redditor — who claimed to work for a hockey retailer — shared that a listing came up in their inventory for a league-wide alternate jersey for the 206-27 season.
The Reddit post claimed it was listed as the “HTR” program, and shared the primary color listed for each team. Sportslogos.net first reported on the collection after they discovered that Fanatics filed for a trademark on the phrase “Hometown Remix” in February of 2025. They reported that the new collection may be the NHL’s response to the NBA’s City Edition and the MLB’s City Connect jersey programs.
The collection follows Adidas’s Reverse Retro jerseys, first released in 2020, and the Reverse Retro 2.0 alternate jersey follow-ups in 2022, which were officially put to rest after the 2023-24 season when Fanatics took over as the NHL’s new outfitter.
So far, the full Hometown Remix jersey designs for the New York Islanders and the Florida Panthers appear to have been leaked after fans spotted the jerseys listed for sale on eBay. Both were youth jerseys, so there are discrepancies in proportions and details compared to the eventual game-issued jersey.
The purported new Panthers’ design will be the NHL’s first-ever pink jersey, seemingly inspired by Miami Vice. The main crest is a reimagined version of their current secondary logo, comprised of a palm tree and a hockey stick, which was also present on the front of their second Reverse Retro jersey.
The Islanders’ Hometown Remix design will feature the return of the fisherman crest. The fisherman, which also graced the front of their second Reverse Retro, is slightly updated from the 1995 original. The similarities to the short-lived 1995 rebrand continue, with a lighthouse secondary logo on the shoulders and wave-like stripes on the edges.
Both jerseys have an inverted, embroidered NHL shield, which will likely be the standard across the Hometown Remix sweaters. The Reverse Retro collection’s shields had vintage orange detailing.
A breakdown of the two designs and more details on the base colors of the NHL’s Hometown Remix jerseys were shared in a YouTube video posted by Icethetics.
The base colors provided in the video largely align with the initial Reddit post, with the exception of the Montreal Canadiens (initially rumored to be navy, while Icethetics claims it will be white or a combination) and the New York Rangers (initially black, Icethetics navy). Icethetics expands slightly on specific shades, provides historical context, such as the Anaheim Ducks‘ Mighty Duck green, and offers a few potential design inspirations, such as the Utah Mammoth‘s “tusk-centered” design and the Boston Bruins‘ “collegiate style”.
The Washington Capitals are expected to draw inspiration from an already tried-and-true reference: the 90s-era Screaming Eagle Jerseys. Icethetics described the base color of their upcoming Hometown Remix design as the shade of blue from that memorable design worn from 1995 until 2000. There are no other details beyond that, so what logos Washington will use on the crest and shoulder are unknown — at least as of now.
The Capitals’ upcoming alternate will follow their wildly successful Reverse Retros: a red base and black base Screagle. They didn’t retire those designs after 2020 and 2022, bringing back the black Screaming Eagle in 2024 for six games to celebrate the team’s 50th anniversary and a red, white, and blue version in 2025 as their third jersey. The black Screagle jersey from 2022 and 2024 is Alex Ovechkin’s favorite Washington Capitals alternate.
Washington’s jersey success doesn’t stop with the Screaming Eagle. The Cherry Blossom jersey, first introduced in 2023, quickly became a favorite, even though the design was never worn in-game and was only available to fans through auction. Such a favorite that the team rereleased the design in sky blue a year later, still with no replicas available. The Cherry Blossom jersey has since become a highly anticipated tradition, with new variations worn during warmups and then auctioned off in 2025 and 2026.
The entire Hometown Remix collection is expected to drop in September, so fans won’t have long to wait to see what the newest Capitals jersey to snag will look like.
