Keep on rolling by, Zamboni gravy boats. There’s a new hockey-themed Thanksgiving dishware giveaway in the NHL.
The New Jersey Devils released their 2026-27 theme nights and giveaways Monday morning, including a special new Thanksgiving promotion giveaway: Butter Benches.
The Devils’ will give the butter dish “bench” away to the first 9,000 fans in attendance for their November 23, Thanksgiving Week Kickoff game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team will also honor local High School Hockey State Champion captains during the game.
The butter dish features the team’s main logo on the front “boards,” with “New Jersey Devils” written along the back in red. Inside is a light, wooden “bench” for the stick of butter to sit on. The lid is clear so the bench can always be admired, and it has a hockey-stick handle for easy opening. And, it only resembles a coffin *a little bit*.
Other giveaway items include a Military Appreciation Night hat, Youth Hockey Day Arseny Gritsyuk bag tag, Mascot Madness NJ Devil night light, and Fan Appreciation Night Luke Hughes bobblehead.
The giveaway is a slight twist to the now-familiar and cherished Zamboni gravy boats that have become a Thanksgiving staple around the league. Many teams, such as the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, and the Pittsburgh Penguins (who took the bit a step further and included musician Young Gravy in their promo) have given away their own gravy boats in recent seasons.
While they became more prevalent in recent years, gravy boat giveaways are not a new phenomena in the NHL. The Washington Capitals‘ gave away “ice resurfacing gravy boats” in 2017 to season ticket holders and fans who bought a special holiday ticket package. The boats were a hit, reselling for over $100 and claiming the title of second-best NHL giveaway for the 2017-18 season.
