Fish are foes, not food: Caps beat Sharks 5-1

The Washington Capitals began the western swing of their six game road trip in San Jose for a nice Valentine’s Day date with Jumbo Joe and the Sharks.

Kevin Labanc opened scoring on the evening, before goals from TJ Oshie and Jakub Vrana flipped the scoreline in favor of the Caps. Alex Ovechkin extended that lead to two in the second and Oshie’s second of the evening followed shortly after that.

Caps at Sharks pregame: Lovers day quarrel

A late Valentine’s Day scrum is the perfect way to end your date night! The Capitals are on the West Coast playing the Sharks this evening. This is gonna be a tricky one for the Capitals, with the Sharks being the better team on paper, but it’s all about confidence. Or at least faking it until you make it. Stay positive.

Get a nap in, go for a jog, start the coffee machine, whatever you gotta do to stay awake because this puck is dropping at 10:30PM on NBCS Washington. Personally? That is WAY past my bedtime, so I’ll be streaming on my device from my bed on the My Teams app (you can too). Recap will be coming to you from our own lil’ night owl, Chris from the comments.

How did that happen: numbers for the morning after

The Washington Capitals just cannot stop the bleeding as they’ve now lost six games in a row on the trot and this latest loss came in particularly deflating fashion. The San Jose Sharks improbable 7-6 overtime victory just adds gas to a seemingly infinite bonfire of frustration.

The Sharks out-shot the Caps 43 to 39, but the Caps won the five-on-five shot attempt battle 48 to 42. Yay.

Alex Ovechkin will play against Leafs on Wednesday, suspension to come in February

Alex Ovechkin scored a hat trick in Washington’s spirit-sundering loss to San Jose, which extended their slump to six games. The Caps have just one game left before the all-star break, on Wednesday in Toronto, and Ovi says he’s playing in it.

The unkillable slump: Sharks beat Caps 7-6 (OT)

The Washington Capitals tried and failed to vanquish their losing streak. They suffered a soul-eradicating overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks to make it six losses in a row. Ovechkin did stuff though. That’s something, I suppose.

Joe Pavelski started the night on a sour note, scoring for the Sharks just 12 seconds in. That stung, but not for long: Alex Ovechkin notched a power-play goal from the far side to even the score. After a lengthy drought, gangly teenager-with-promise Andre Burakovsky got a goal with a gorgeous snipe to give the Caps the lead, which they promptly squandered as Tomas Hertl got an equally pretty snipe on the power play. Before the first period was up, TJ Oshie took a nice pass from Alex Ovechkin to restore the Caps’ lead.

The Sharks brought the score even with a scramble in front of the net after a penalty expired, but Evgeny answered with a wristshot from a sharp angle to put Washington ahead. Alex Ovechkin took a drop pass from Nicklas Backstrom to make it a two-goal lead soon after. Logan Couture cut that lead in half with a [checks notes] three-on-zero rush goal after a Kuznetsov turnover.

In the third period, Alex Ovechkin scored his third hat trick of the season, seemingly locking up the win. Except Hertl tightened it up with another power-play goal, nearly identical to his first one. Then, with one second left in regulation, the Sharks tied it, forcing overtime, where Tomas Hertl completed his own hat trick to win.

CAPS LOSE. Six in a row. It burns.

Caps vs Sharks pregame: Stop the slump

It’s time to end this slump. Not just for the Capitals’ sake, but for my own sanity. I can’t read any more dramatic takes. Might be a tad tricky since the Sharks are looking pretty good, but they’re also on their own losing streak. The Sharks have lost three in a row and allowed six goals in each loss. There is only one good thing about the Sharks and it is the fact that their fans are lucky enough to be able to attribute their team to one of the biggest bops on the planet. It’s “Baby Shark.”

The Capitals didn’t travel out to the west coast, so we are all very blessed with a 7PM puck drop! Don’t forget, if you are without a television, you can always stream the game live on the My Teams app. Peter will deliver, what I’m sure will be, an impeccable recap.

Erik Karlsson made his San Jose debut in the Sharks new ‘stealth mode’ jersey

Erik Karlsson made his San Jose Sharks debut Saturday night in a preseason game against the Vegas Golden Knights. But when he hit the ice, he wasn’t decked out in the expected Pacific teal. He was wearing the new black “stealth mode” jersey instead.

“It looks great,” Karlsson said. “You know, for me, it’s a weird feeling, obviously, to put on a brand new jersey, but I’m super excited for it, and I’m proud to be able to stand here today and show you this third jersey. I think it looks awesome.”

Joe Thornton reveals he tore the MCL and ACL in his right knee. He tore the same ligaments in his left knee last year.

The San Jose Sharks season was cut short Sunday evening as the upstart Vegas Golden Knights won Game Six. As the Sharks held their locker room clean out day Tuesday, the extent of their injuries became known.

Veteran forward Joe Thornton, who hadn’t appeared in a game since January 23rd after leaving with a knee injury, announced he tore his MCL and ACL in his right knee.
