The Hershey Bears finished out their week strong with a 4-0 shutout over the Bridgeport Islanders.
Bears’ goalie Clay Stevenson was named the First Star of the Night. Stevenson saved all 25 shots he faced in his third shutout of the season so far.
With the victory, the Bears swept both nights of their back-to-back with the Islanders, outscoring them 9-4.

Hershey Bears forward Brian Pinho is out indefinitely after having surgery on his shoulder a few days ago.
The Bears announced the news Monday in a tweet.

The Washington Capitals made another big cut to their Training Camp roster, leaving the team with 27 players a little over a week ahead of Opening Night.
Seven players were removed from the roster, three of which must pass through waivers to get to Hershey.
Alex Ovechkin and TJ Oshie were back on the ice Wednesday for a brisk practice ahead of Thursday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. Ovechkin missed Tuesday’s skate due to a lower-body injury while Oshie took a personal day.
Both players rejoined the first line which was centered by Evgeny Kuznetsov.
The Washington Capitals will play the Boston Bruins again Monday night in a rematch from Saturday. The Capitals will continue to be without several of their stars and important depth pieces.
Evgeny Kuznetsov and Ilya Samsonov remain on the COVID Unavailability List for a 12th consecutive day. Lars Eller and Justin Schultz will again not play due to injury.
On the lines front, Peter Laviolette made several notable changes.
Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson will be a game-time decision tonight against the New York Islanders.
Wilson, who is managing a “really weird” lower-body injury, skated on the Capitals’ second-line during the team’s morning skate.

The Washington Capitals announced their first signing of the 2020 offseason.
Brian Pinho has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Caps worth an annual average value of $725k. In the first year, Pinho will earn $700k at the NHL level and $125k at the AHL level, with a guaranteed salary of $150k. In 2021-22, Pinho’s contract will become one-way and worth $750k, meaning he’ll make a minimum of $900k through the life of this deal.
As the first week of the NHL’s Return To Play plan wraps up, it’s clear the steps the Washington Capitals are taking to keep their facility safe during the coronavirus pandemic are working. Friday, I was the first RMNB reporter to attend a practice since the coronavirus pandemic shuttered the rest of the regular season on March 12.
Personally, I was nervous to go. I have been self-isolating since March. Other than grocery store trips, I’ve stayed inside. I’ve only let my family and roommate be in my quarantine bubble.
I’m happy to report the Capitals did everything they could to make media members feel safe. There were big differences in how practices were conducted and how media members could operate than before.

The Hershey Bears held their annual Teddy Bear Toss Game Sunday night at Giant Center. 45,650 stuffed animals rained down onto the ice, breaking the world record they set last season of 34,798.
Stanley Cup champion Christian Djoos, who was sent down to the AHL earlier in the day by the Capitals, scored the historic Teddy Bear Toss goal.

The Washington Capitals played their final preseason game at home on Saturday, defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in front of a loud crowd at Capital One Arena. The Caps, sporting a mishmash lineup of veterans and Hershey Bears regulars, received a stellar outing by Ilya Samsonov who was credited with the win.
Brian Pinho was the first star of the night after scoring twice, including a very ugly game-winning goal. Brett Leason also scored.
