Caps at Wild pregame: Urgency rising
The Washington Capitals haven’t been too great lately, but neither have the Minnesota Wild. Last month they traded away their best player and fired their coach. They’re currently outside the playoff bubble, but the western conference is so crowded they’re necessarily out of the race yet.
The Washington Capitals can help settle that matter on Sunday night ay 8 PM. Chris has recap duty, so treat him nicely.

Bruce Boudreau fired by Minnesota Wild on Valentine’s Day 💔
After spending the last four years in St. Paul, Bruce Boudreau is out as head coach of the Minnesota Wild in what has to be the cruelest valentine in hockey history.
The Athletic’s Michael Russo and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman were the first to report the news.

The Minnesota Wild are playing with 5 defenseman against Pittsburgh because they filled out their lineup card wrong
The Minnesota Wild had an embarrassing miscue before the start of Tuesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Head coach Bruce Boudreau filled out the lineup card wrong and the Wild are only playing with five defensemen.

The 2021 Winter Classic will be hosted by the Minnesota Wild at Target Field
The National Hockey League’s 13th ever Winter Classic will be held in Minnesota next year and be hosted by the Wild. An opponent has not been selected yet.
Commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement during the second intermission of the Nashville Predators-Dallas Stars game at the Cotton Bowl.

Minnesota Wild’s latest signing is team puppy named Breezer
The dog party continues. This time, the Minnesota Wild have jumped on the puppy bandwagon. Their newest squirt, Breezer, is a 12-week-old Labrador Retriever and he is ready for the upcoming season.
Breezer will become a future service dog after spending the next year with the Minnesota Wild, being fostered and trained by President Matt Majka and his wife Kym.

Win for the Wild: numbers for the morning after
The Washington Capitals could not get enough offense to take down the stingy Minnesota Wild and one bad turnover on defense sealed the deal in regulation. The 2-1 loss was quite the snooze fest, especially after the Caps recent games against the Lightning.
The Wild out-shot the Caps 27 to 22.

‘Just put tape on that’: Alan May supervises, criticizes rink repair
Washington’s 2-1 loss to Minnesota was a low-key affair. Brett Connolly scored the Caps’ lone goal, his 21st of the season, in an otherwise light-on-highlights night.
But a stoppage in play in the third period gave us some levity. Helping call the game from between the benches, relentless troll and NBC Sports analyst Alan May did play-by-play for some rink maintenance.

Wack not wild: Wild beat Caps 2-1
Friday night, the Washington Capitals continued their home stand with a soiree involving their former bench boss Bruce Boudreau and his Minnesota Wild team. This was the final game of the season that the Caps will play against a Western Conference team…unless we get another Cup Final.
Jordan Greenway opened scoring for the Wild during a sleepy first period. Brett Connolly deflected home a Nick Jensen drive to tie the game at one. Luke Kunin restored the Wild lead in the third.
Wild beat Caps 2-1.

One more piece of late-breaking news for this busy Friday evening: the Washington Capitals have announced that Carl Hagelin will miss Friday’s game due to illness.
Missing Hagelin means Andre Burakovsky will be back on the third line.
