Alex Ovechkin jokingly blames All-Star Game loss on Metro’s Russian goalies, picks best babysitter of Ovi Jr

Alex Ovechkin wrapped up a very exciting weekend in Florida at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game on Saturday as he and the rest of his Metropolitan Division teammates competed in the league’s three-on-three tournament.

While Ovi combined on a very successful line with “good friend” Sidney Crosby for multiple highlight reel goals and assists, the Metro all-stars were incapable of getting out of the first round. They dropped their matchup with the Atlantic Division 10-6.

Ovi was asked about the result after the game and jokingly put the blame on the Rangers’ Igor Shesterkin and the Islanders’ Ilya Sorokin’s performances in net.

Alex Ovechkin scores once, brilliantly assists on two Sidney Crosby goals at 2023 All-Star Game

Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby are “good friends” and they showed it during both nights of 2023 All-Star Weekend.

On Night One, Ovechkin and Crosby combined with four-year-old Sergei Ovechkin to win the Breakaway Challenge at the All-Star Skills Competition.

During Game Two of the three-on-three All-Star Game tournament, Ovechkin and Crosby played on the same line and combined on two beautiful give-and-go goals where the Capitals captain played the role of dishmaster to his longtime rival.

The Atlantic Division would go on to beat the Metropolitan Division, 10-6, eliminating the Metro in the first round.

Alex Ovechkin reviews Ovi Jr’s performance in breakaway challenge: ‘I thought he was just going to take a slap shot. He’s learning.’

Alex Ovechkin had a very fun day at the 2023 NHL All-Star Skills Competition as he got to take in all the action with his four-year-old son Sergei. The dynamic duo’s biggest moment of the night came during the Breakaway Challenge where they teamed up with Sidney Crosby and put up a perfect 40 score to win the whole thing.

Ovi was asked about the special day afterward and commented on just how much fun Sergei had and the shot that won them their challenge.

The NHL his hosting the 2023 All-Star Skills Competition at FLA Live Arena at 7:15 pm. The special event can be watched on on ESPN, ESPN+, Sportsnet, and TVA Sports.

Alex Ovechkin says he is ‘good friends’ with Sidney Crosby and that the two call and text each other

Alex Ovechkin took his turn at the podium for Media Day as NHL All-Star Weekend media festivities got underway, Thursday. The Caps captain took a seat at a podium that featured a scenic Fort Lauderdale beach background behind him.

For the All-Star Skills Competition, Ovi will be teaming with his longtime bitter rival, Sidney Crosby, during the Breakaway Challenge.

So, naturally, he was asked about what his relationship is like with Sid these days.

How to watch the 2023 NHL All-Star Skills Competition and who’s participating in each event

The NHL announced on Thursday the player assignments for the 2023 NHL All-Star Skills Competition. The event will be held on Friday, February 3 at 7 pm and air on ESPN, ESPN+, Sportsnet, and TVA Sports. The Florida Panthers are hosting All-Star Weekend at FLA Live Arena, in Sunrise, Fla.

The All-Star Skills Competition will feature seven different events and almost every all-star will participate in at least one of the seven.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will take part in the Breakaway Challenge alongside Sidney Crosby and try to recapture his crown in the Hardest Shot competition.

The NHL added three brand new events to the night which include the Splash Shot, Pitch ‘n Puck, and Tendy Tandem.

They have also brought in five elite women’s hockey players from Team USA and Team Canada to take part in the action.

Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby to compete together in NHL Breakaway Challenge at All-Star Skills Competition

This generation’s biggest rivals, Sindey Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, will once again be Metropolitan Division teammates at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game. But they’ll also be more than that.

According to ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski, the two superstars will participate in the All-Star Skills Competition on Friday night and compete in the NHL Breakaway Challenge together.

Ovechkin is a three-time winner of the event receiving top honors in 2008, 2009, and 2011. After that, he shied away from the event preferring to let other young players have the spotlight and try to make a name for themselves.

Former Capital Chandler Stephenson named NHL All-Star for first time in career

Lil’ Steve will be delivering at the NHL All-Star Game.

Former Capitals forward Chandler Stephenson was named an All-Star by the NHL on Monday after Seattle Kraken forward Matty Beniers was forced to pull out of the event.

Stephenson is the Vegas Golden Knights’ leading scorer (44) and leading assist man (33). He’s also tied for sixth on the team in goals (11).
