NBC Washington is reporting THE BAND IS GETTING BACK TOGETHER.
TJ Oshie will vacation with Karl Alzner during the All-Star Break.
Nearly a month ago, TJ Oshie returned to the ice after missing six games due to his fourth documented concussion. Oshie was injured December 4 against the San Jose Sharks. After falling to the ice after delivering a hit, the Caps forward was butt checked in the head by San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton.
Oshie’s bad luck with opposing players’ derrieres continued Thursday in New Jersey.
Barry Trotz seems to be sticking with some lineup changes he made during the Capitals’ 4-3 overtime win against the St. Louis Blues Sunday, with TJ Oshie practicing on the third line with Lars Eller and Brett Connolly after breaking a five-game pointless streak.
As reported by NBC Sports Washington’s Tarik El-Bashir, Devante Smith-Pelly practiced on the first line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, while Andre Burakovsky remains in Trotz’s doghouse and rotated in rather than practicing on a line.
TJ Oshie hasn’t been the same player since returning from his fourth-documented concussion in early December.
Ahead of Sunday’s matinee against the St. Louis Blues, Capitals head coach Barry Trotz tried to jumpstart the team’s co-leader in goals last season by putting him back on the top line with Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin. It worked.
Oshie snapped a five-game point-less streak all while having the best cheering squad at the game.
On Thursday evening, the Capitals put on their best suits and ties for the team’s annual Caps Casino Night. All proceeds from the event, hosted in the casino ballroom of the newly opened MGM National Harbor, benefited the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation.
Players interacted with fans while playing blackjack, craps, roulette, Texas Hold ’Em, and slot machines.
Despite a goal explosion in Carolina, Capitals head coach Barry Trotz tweaked the lines at Wednesday’s practice ahead of a four-day break between games.
TJ Oshie, who has one goal in his last 14 games, was returned to the first line with Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin. Tom Wilson was bumped up to the team’s second line with Evgeny Kuznetsov and Jakub Vrana. Andre Burakovsky, scratched the last two games due to poor play, remains out of the lineup.
The Capitals took a stumble into the holiday break after back-to-back road losses against the Arizona Coyotes and Vegas Golden Knights. But it looks like the boys still had a relaxing break with friends and family. Here’s what your faves of the past, present, and future Caps were up to this break.
The first period of the Caps-Yotes game featured five shots and lots of yawns. 5:40 into the second period, the Caps finally broke through. TJ Oshie scored his 11th goal of the season after a slick individual play by Jakub Vrana.
