The Washington Capitals just released their own set of designs in Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become one of the most popular video games of 2020 so far, selling over 13 million copies worldwide since its release in late March.

One of the most popular features of the game has been its custom design feature, which allows users to create their own clothing and patterns and share them in the Able Sisters’ tailor shop via the Internet. Hockey fans have been making all kind of things to represent their favorite teams, and now the Capital have jumped on a Dodo Airlines plane to join in with a plethora of designs straight from the team itself.

Local sports broadcasters are making personalized videos on Cameo to help raise money for DC’s food banks

With all professional sports leagues on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DC’s local sports broadcasters are teaming up to help raise money for those in need in the DC area.

With a donation of $25 or more, fans can have a broadcaster of their choice create a personalized video via the website Cameo. The money raised will go to help DC Central Kitchen, the Capital Area Food Bank, and Martha’s Table. Donations can also be made by texting “DCSPORTS” to 44321.

Hockey fans are bringing their love of the game into ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’

On March 20, Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released worldwide. The newest game in the popular Nintendo franchise was released at the perfect time, with folks needing an escape from the stresses of current events and also a fun way to connect with friends and loved ones while social distancing.

The Caps will wear green warmup jerseys during Go Green Night to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 16

The Washington Capitals have announced that on March 16, the team will host their annual Go Green Night when they take on the Edmonton Oilers at home.

Prior to the game, the team will wear special green jerseys during warmups. The jerseys will be auctioned off, with all the proceeds benefiting Leveling the Playing Field (LPF), which helps distribute sports equipment to underserved children in the DC Area.

700 lucky fans can get a free donut celebrating Alex Ovechkin’s 700th goal at tonight’s Capitals game

Fans attending tonight’s Capitals game against the Winnipeg Jets can possibly pick themselves up a sweet pre-game treat.

The Capitals will be honoring captain Alex Ovechkin tonight for scoring his 700th career NHL goal on February 22 against the Devils, and all fans in attendance will be receiving a special 700VI rally towel.

The first 700 fans to visit the Dunkin’ kiosk at Capital One Arena will get a free #700VI-themed donut, as well as a Dunkin’ gift card. The donut is filled with vanilla buttercream and topped with vanilla frosting and #700Vi-themed artwork.

Donate blood on March 28 and add a John Carlson bobblehead to your collection

The Capitals announced on Tuesday morning that their next blood drive will be held on March 28 from 7AM to 5PM at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

Fans who donate will receive a t-shirt and a bobblehead of Capitals defenseman John Carlson.

Alex Ovechkin named NHL’s first star of the week

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has had a simply sensational week, and the NHL is acknowledging it as well. Ovechkin has been named the NHL’s First Star for the week ending January 19. Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins and Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews were the second and third stars, respectively.

Ovi scored eight goals in three games, including back to back hat tricks against the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders. The goals propelled him up the NHL’s all-time leaderboard, passing Mario Lemieux (690) and putting him tied for ninth with Steve Yzerman (692).

Capitals to host Pride Night January 7

The Capitals will host their annual Pride Night tonight, Tuesday, January 7, when the Caps take on the Ottawa Senators at Capital One Arena. This is the fourth year that the team has hosted a Pride Night.

Select players from both the Washington Capitals and Ottawa Senators will use rainbow-colored Pride Tape on their sticks during warm-ups. There will also be pride-themed elements during the game, including a LGBTQ military family featured during the game’s military salute.

Unlike in past years, which featured an in-game auction of the used warm-up sticks and other memorabilia, the items will not be auctioned off until June 2020 during Pride Month. All proceeds will benefit SMYAL, a local nonprofit for LGBTQ youth in the Washington area. In a tie to DC sports, Eireann Doolittle, wife of Washington Nationals reliever Sean Doolittle, is a Board Member of SMYAL.

Jakub Vrana wore a Santa Keg Stand ugly sweater in the Capitals Holiday Video

The Washington Capitals released their annual holiday video on Monday morning and it has so many levels I feel like I’m playing Super Mario Brothers 3.

Tom Wilson’s mustache and Captain’s chonkiness suggest the movie was filmed in mid to late November. Judging by the navy-painted bricks, the setting is the alternate locker room at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Then there’s the ugly Christmas sweaters, which, you guys, are a delight.

Each player (except for Garnet Hathaway and Nic Dowd who rocked matching holiday onesies) wore a different one. Jakub Vrana reached Peak V when he rocked a Santa Keg Stand ugly sweater.

Using the clutch help of Google and the eagle eyes of RMNB illustrator/designer/writer Rachel Cohen, here is every ugly sweater the Capitals wore in the holiday video.
