The Washington Capitals’ annual yearbook, W Magazine, is now available for purchase

The Washington Capitals have come out with a brand-new publication, entitled W Magazine, and it is now available for fans to purchase. The team’s captain, Alex Ovechkin, rocks the cover.

The 2019-20 yearbook includes a feature on each member of the Capitals roster. Also included are featured articles on Ovechkin and his impact on hockey in the DC Area, as well as an article on Tom Wilson’s community program “Forty Three’s Friends.” The magazine also features exclusive photography, including personal photos provided by the players.

“It’s a really cool idea,” Braden Holtby said. “[It goes into] peoples’ interests away from hockey.”

Capitals ‘Wish Upon A Par’ charity event to be held January 20, 2020

Monday morning, the Capitals announced that they will host their third annual TopGolf charity event, Wish Upon a Par on Monday, January 20 at TopGolf National Harbor from 2-7 PM.

General admission tickets are now on sale which include a meet & greet session with all attending Caps players, three and a half hours of play, food and non-alcoholic beverages, two drink tickets for beer/wine, access to a silent auction, and an event t-shirt.

The event is hosted and organized by Erin & Brooks Orpik, Tom Wilson, and Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic.

Capitals to host annual Hockey N’ Heels event on January 14, tickets go on sale December 12

Tuesday morning the Capitals announced that they will once again be hosting their annual “Hockey n’Heels” event at Medstar Capitals Iceplex on Tuesday, January 14, from 6-9:30 pm.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, December 12 at 10 am. Fans interested in purchasing tickets must sign up for Scarlet Caps, a team-run fan-club for female Caps fans at washingtoncaps.com/ScarletCaps. Sign-up for Scarlet Caps is free, but tickets for Hockey n’Heels will be $80 ($70 for season ticket holders). A link to purchase tickets will be sent via email to Scarlet Caps members. There is a limit of 4 tickets per member.

John Carlson named NHL’s first star of the week

Capitals defenseman John Carlson keeps finding himself at the top of the NHL’s charts. The blueliner was named the NHL’s first star of the week for the week ending December 8.

Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry and Buffalo defenseman Jack Eichel were named the first and third stars.

Carlson has previously been the second star of the week for the week ending October 20, as well as the first star of the month for October.

Capitals to host annual Holiday Toy Drive on December 11

The Washington Capitals will host their annual holiday toy drive on December 11 prior to their home game against the Boston Bruins.

Fans who donate a new, unwrapped toy will receive a free poster of Capitals forward Carl Hagelin. The toys will be donated to children throughout the DC area.

Donation boxes will be set up at the entrances to Capital One Arena. Fans can also make a monetary donation.

‘Capitals Campfire,’ a Capitals-themed setting, to open at The Wharf in SW DC

If you’re looking for a cool Caps-themed experience outside of Capital One Arena in DC this winter, fans will want to head down to the Wharf down at the DC Waterfront. Starting December 5 through February 25, fans can check out the “Capitals Campfire” in the Camp Wharf at District Square area of the Wharf.

Capitals recall defenseman from Hershey after being short a forward

The Capitals announced on Friday afternoon that they have recalled defenseman Tyler Lewington from the AHL’s Hershey Bears. Lewington has played in five games with the Caps this season.

The move is slightly baffling since the Capitals are in need of a forward. Nic Dowd and Carl Hagelin are both considered day-to-day with upper body injuries and are out for Friday nights game against the Canadiens.

With the move, the Capitals now have 8 defensemen and 11 forwards on the active roster, suggesting they might play with an extra defenseman against the Habs and double-shift a center or other forwards. More roster moves are expected to come prior to the Caps’ game in Boston on Saturday.

Jakub Vrana named second star of the week after scoring first career hat trick

Jakub Vrana just had one of the best weeks of his career, and the NHL is rewarding him for it.

The Caps forward is the NHL’s second star of the week for the week ending 11/3. V had six points during the week, including 5 goals in two games and his first-ever hat trick Sunday night against the Calgary Flames (with the newly-crowned World Series champion Nationals in attendance).

Vrana’s five goals were more than any other NHL player last week.

New shirt: FOUNTAIN SZN

The Washington Capitals made headlines in June 2018 not only for winning their first-ever Stanley Cup, but for the amount of partying that came afterward. Said partying also included a dip in a Georgetown fountain.

The Washington Nationals are now also champions, clinching their first-ever World Series title on Wednesday night. The Caps showed their joy by hinting that the Nats should take a little dip of their own.

So we’ve created a new shirt that would be perfect to wear for such an occasion.

Capitals to host Hockey Fights Cancer night on November 23

The Capitals’ annual Hockey Fights Cancer night will take place on Saturday, November 23, when the Caps take on the Vancouver Canucks at Capital One Arena.

Like in previous years, the team will don lavender-colored jerseys for warm ups and have special decals on their helmets. Select players will also have sticks wrapped in lavender-colored tape. Nicklas Backstrom will also be donning lavender skate blades in honor of his mother, who is a breast cancer survivor.
