In a release from the team, the Washington Capitals have announced their full schedule for the week leading up to Training Camp, including media day and their participation in the 2019 Prospect Showcase.
The rookie tournament will go from September 5-10 and be hosted by the Predators in Nashville, Tennessee. Previous tournaments have been held in Florida, with rookies from the Capitals, Predators, and Panthers participating. The roster of rookies participating in the tournament is TBD.
Capitals Training Camp opens on September 12 with Media Day, with on-ice sessions beginning on September 13. The team’s first preseason game is on September 16 at home against the Chicago Blackhawks. View the entire preseason schedule here.
The Caps kick off their 2019-20 regular season schedule on October 2 in St. Louis against the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Blues, with their home opener on October 5 vs. the Carolina Hurricanes.

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals will officially open their 2019-20 NHL training camp on Thursday, Sept. 12, at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va. This marks the Capitals’ 13th training camp at Medstar Capitals Iceplex, the Metro-accessible, inside-the-Beltway practice facility that features two NHL-sized rinks. All on-ice sessions will be open to the public and free of charge.
The Capitals will hold the 2019 Media Day on Thursday, Sept 12. All players will be available to the media following the conclusion of physicals and off-ice testing. Additional information and media availability times for Capitals management, coaches and players will be announced at a later date. Please note, due to the team’s travel schedule leading up to the regular season opener in St. Louis on Oct. 2, the Capitals will not hold a Capitals Media Luncheon this year.
The Capitals will hold their first on-ice session on Sept. 13. There are three practice sessions scheduled that day (Group White at 9:30 a.m., Group Red at 11 a.m. and Group Blue at 12:30 p.m.). Players will be available to the media at the conclusion of their on- and off-ice sessions. The complete training camp schedule and roster will be announced at a later date.
Prior to the start of NHL training camp, the Capitals will compete in the 2019 Prospect Showcase from Sept 7-10 at Ford Ice Center in Antioch, Tenn. The rookie tournament will also feature top prospects from the Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes. Capitals’ prospects will face each of the three other participating teams once during the round-robin tournament. All Capitals games can be streamed by visiting WashingtonCaps.com. In addition, all tournament games can be heard on the 24-hour radio channel, Caps Radio 24/7, devoted specially to the Capitals and NHL. The Capitals’ tournament roster and further media information will be released at a later date.
