Zdeno Chara is returning to Capital One Arena for the first time since leaving the Capitals. NB19: ‘I can’t say good enough things about him.’

Zdeno Chara will return to Capital One Arena and play against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday for the first time since leaving the team as an unrestricted free agent and signing with the New York Islanders over the offseason.

The soon-to-be 45-year-old defenseman is currently in his 24th season as a pro and recently celebrated his 1,652nd game — the most in NHL history for a defenseman.

Nicklas Backstrom tallies point number 1000

Nicklas Backstrom just scored his 1,000th career point against the Edmonton Oilers. His dashboard stats now read 263g, 737a, 1000p.

Nicke’s milestone point came on a primary assist via a TJ Oshie power-play goal in the third period. The goal tied the game between the Capitals and Oilers 2-2.

Joe Snively misses practice due to upper-body injury; Kuznetsov, Backstrom, and Vanecek all take maintenance days

The Washinton Capitals held a noon practice on Tuesday, a day after suffering their sixth straight home regulation loss at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Forward Joe Snively was missing from the ice as the team says he is dealing with a lingering upper-body injury. The Caps also told The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir that Vitek Vanecek, Nicklas Backstrom, and Evgeny Kuznetsov all took maintenance days.

Every Capitals player skates during practice for first time this season: ‘Guys are happy to see their teammates out there’

The Washington Capitals saw TJ Oshie, Justin Schultz, and Vitek Vanecek participate fully in practice on Monday after the team was given three days off from head coach Peter Laviolette over the weekend. Anthony Mantha, who underwent shoulder surgery in November, even joined the team in a light blue non-contact jersey.

Laviolette put the Capitals through some heavy conditioning work before finishing practice with some fine-tuning of system play. The head coach, who recently won his 700th career NHL game, was hopeful the returns buoy the team down the stretch.

Nicklas Backstrom’s gloves misdelivered to Arlington house, Capitals trade bobblehead to get them back

Nicklas Backstrom has endured a months-long rehabilitation for a hip injury, COVID, and a non-COVID illness. Put all together, his 2021-22 season feels cursed. Now, the bad juju has reached his hockey equipment.

Monday, a large box of Backstrom’s Warrior gloves was misdelivered to an Arlington, Virginia house that had a similar but very different address. A Nicke doesn’t live there, but a Jack and a Jon do.

“This gigantic box showed up at our door yesterday,” Jack explained in an interview. “There was no tag on the top so I just opened it figuring it out was ours. Then I saw hockey gloves and realized that it clearly wasn’t meant for us. Once I checked the tags on the side, I saw Backstrom’s name and the name of the equipment manager, Brock Myles.”

Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom congratulate Henrik Lundqvist on jersey retirement

Henrik Lundqvist had his no. 30 retired by the New York Rangers on Friday. Part of a long ceremony celebrating Hank’s career, the Rangers collected congratulations from Lundqvist’s teammates and biggest rivals.

Two of Hank’s former teammates from the Capitals participated including Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom – two likely Hockey Hall of Famers.
