Sergei Ovechkin wasn’t the only Capitals kid to have a huge hockey milestone last week.
On Sunday, five-year-old Lucca Carlson (2033 NHL Draft eligible) had his first hockey practice.
Lucca’s mom Gina Carlson documented the day and the excitement she and her son had is so pure.
Sawyer Carlson, John Carlson’s third son, was born on November 30 at 11:30 am.
Four days later, the eight-pound, nine-ounce baby boy got to go home with mom.
Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson spoke to the media through a Zoom call on Wednesday.
The likely Norris Trophy finalist revealed how he’s been training to stay in shape, when he thinks the NHL season will resume, and how he’s been communicating with his teammates.
He also touched on his time at home with his two young sons, Lucca and Rudy. John and his wife Gina, like most families with children during the coronavirus pandemic, are running out of things to with their kids.
During the All-Star Skills Competition, the San Jose Sharks game entertainment crew started the pregame show with the number 32 song on the Billboard’s Top 40: Baby Shark.
The earworm song must have earworm’d into John Carlson’s brain because during the family’s bye week vacation in Florida, the Capitals defenseman sang the song to his youngest son.
Except, he changed the lyrics.
After losing their fourth preseason game to the Canes 5-1, the Capitals were given Saturday off to rest. That didn’t mean they stayed off the ice.
TJ Oshie and John Carlson were both at MedStar Capitals Iceplex with their children. Jakub Vrana and Andre Burakovsky skated with youth hockey players.

Tuesday night’s preseason game against the Boston Bruins was lackluster, as the Caps dropped their second preseason game against the B’s 5-2.
But defenseman John Carlson’s son, Lucca Carlson, was ready for game time, and he started with a good pregame meal that he shared with Andre Burakovsky.

In a video posted recently to defenseman John Carlson’s Instagram stories, Gina Carlson posted video of her son Lucca, pretending to be goaltender Braden Holtby.
Lucca took his love of Holtby to the next level while celebrating with his family over the 4th of July. When given the opportunity to have his face painted, the Carlson’s oldest son had a specific request: he wanted “HOLTBY” written across his cheeks.

Lucca Carlson, taking after his dad, John Carlson, truly loves hockey. He’s been wearing skates for most of his life, and is always seen in Gina Carlson’s Instagram videos carrying a tiny hockey stick everywhere he goes.
Now, it seems Lucca really wants to be a goaltender. Specifically Braden Holtby.
