Lars Eller receives standing ovation from Capitals fans after tribute video

The Washington Capitals honored 2018 Stanley Cup champion center, Lars Eller, with a tribute video in the team’s Home Opener on Friday. Eller, the man who is the owner of the lone Cup-winning goal in franchise history, made his first visit back to DC since he was dealt by the Capitals to the Colorado Avalanche last season.

Eller signed a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins in free agency this past summer. Despite joining up with the Capitals’ mortal enemy, the 34-year-old forward received a standing ovation from fans inside Capital One Arena.

And, yes, Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” rang around the arena afterward.

Jakub Vrana gets standing ovation from fans after Capitals air tribute video on jumbotron

The Washington Capitals honored 2018 Stanley Cup champion forward, Jakub Vrana, with a tribute video on Tuesday.

Vrana was playing his first game at Capital One Arena since being traded along with Richard Panik and two high draft picks to the Red Wings for Anthony Mantha.

Capitals honor Mikhail Ovechkin with moment of silence and tribute video before Panthers game

Alex Oveckhin’s father, Mikhail Ovechkin, passed away in Russia on February 15 at the age of 71.

With their team’s captain with his family and on personal leave, the Capitals honored Mikhail with a moment of silence before puck drop.

Darcy Kuemper and Nicolas Aube-Kubel receive tribute video from Avalanche in return to Ball Arena

Darcy Kuemper and Nicolas Aube-Kubel were part of a very special run to the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche last season. The two helped the Avs win the franchise’s third championship and the organization’s first since the 2000-01 campaign.

The two current members of the Washington Capitals returned to their former home ice at Ball Arena for the first time as visitors on Tuesday. The Avalanche welcomed them back with a joint tribute video in celebration of what they accomplished in 2022.

Ovi Jr turns Alex Ovechkin’s goal counter to 800 after tribute video

Four-year-old Sergei Ovechkin was given an adorable honor during the first period of the Capitals-Stars game.

Sergei turned his dad’s goal counter at Capital One Arena to 800 as proud mom Nastya videoed the moment in the background.

Capitals play tribute video, Alex Ovechkin gets standing ovation after capturing most goals with a single franchise record

The Washington Capitals lost to the Arizona Coyotes 3-2, but there was one moment full of win.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 787th career goal, passing Gordie Howe for the most tallies with a single franchise.

The Capitals were ready and prepared for the accomplishment, firing off a tribute video in the second period during the next TV timeout.

Nicklas Backstrom receives standing ovation from Capitals fans after tribute video honoring his 1,000th point

Nicklas Backstrom was overshadowed by Alex Ovechkin again. But today we’re here to rectify that.

Lost in the headlines of Alex Ovechkin’s 767th career goal was Backstrom being honored in front of the Capital One Arena crowd on Tuesday for reaching the 1,000-point milestone. Backstrom hit the mark on March 9 against the Edmonton Oilers via a primary assist on a TJ Oshie power-play goal. With the point, the longtime Capitals center became the sixth Swede and the 93rd player ever to reach the milestone in the NHL.

The Capitals aired a tribute video on the jumbotron during a first-period TV timeout against the New York Islanders.

Seattle Kraken post tribute video for Vitek Vanecek

The Seattle Kraken did what many of us joked they should do on Hockey Twitter.

Seattle honored Vitek Vanecek, “a true kraken legend,” with a tribute video during his homecoming game against the team. Vanecek was picked by the Kraken in the expansion draft over the summer and spent seven days in Seattle before being traded back to the Capitals.

Sean Doolittle’s emotional return to Nationals Park includes hugs, gifts, and tributes: ‘I’m so grateful’

Sean Doolittle’s tenure with the Washington Nationals came to an end in 2020 when he left via free agency and signed with the Cincinnati Reds. Doolittle, who joined the Nationals via trade in 2017, was an integral part of the World Series team and had a special place in many Nationals fans’ hearts.

In his first visit back to the District, Doolittle was welcomed back by the team with generous tributes.
