Former Capitals winger Alex Chiasson riding three-game goal streak in return to NHL with Red Wings

Former Capitals winger Alex Chiasson had a delayed start to the NHL portion of his 2022-23 season but has had quite an explosive first few games since joining the Detroit Red Wings. The 32-year-old forward is currently riding a three-game goal streak, with all three markers coming on the power play.

Chiasson, who played for the Caps’ Stanely Cup-winning team in 2018, joined the Red Wings at the trade deadline after spending most of the campaign in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Where are they now? The Washington Capitals’ 2018 Stanley Cup championship team.

The Washington Capitals defeated the Vegas Golden Knights four games to one to win the Stanley Cup four years ago this week.

Since then, the Capitals have not won a playoff series since, getting first-rounded four consecutive times. While the Caps’ core and identity have largely stayed the same, the 2018 team’s supporting cast has moved on. Only nine of those 27 players are still on the team while two others, Shane Gersich and Pheonix Copley, remain in the organization.

Some key members of the 2018 championship team have flourished elsewhere. Others have wound down their careers or retired in different organizations or leagues.

CHAISSON: Vancouver Canucks misspell Alex Chiasson’s name on his jersey

Alex Chiasson is a 10-year NHL veteran who won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018. Four seasons later, he’s still not getting the respect he deserves.

Chiasson, who was not offered a contract by an NHL team over the offseason, signed a PTO in late September with the Vancouver Canucks. Chiasson made the team out of training camp, signing a one-year deal on Tuesday. Three nights later, Chiasson took the ice for the Canucks in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

His last name was misspelled on the back of his jersey.

Incredibly, every Stanley Cup Final since 1980 has featured at least one of Jaromir Jagr’s former teammates

Jaromir Jagr spent 24 years in the NHL and played for nine different teams. According to NHL Europe, Jagr’s seemingly never-ending career has given the Czech superstar an obscure, Kevin Bacon-esque streak that continues to this day.

According to the NHL, the Stanley Cup Final has featured at least one of Jaromir Jagr’s teammates since 1980 – a 41-year streak.

Former Capital Alex Chiasson put on waivers by Edmonton Oilers

Alex Chiasson was put on waivers Monday in a surprise move by the Edmonton Oilers.

Chiasson can be optioned to the Oilers’ taxi squad or the AHL if he is not claimed by another NHL team by noon Tuesday.

Alex Chiasson scores first postseason goal since Capitals’ Stanley Cup run, Penguins’ elimination game

Connor McDavid’s hat trick got all the headlines after the Edmonton Oilers’ 6-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, but one former Capital had himself a night too.

Alex Chiasson scored his first playoff goal and tallied his first playoff assist since the Capitals’ Stanley Cup run in 2018.

Alex Chiasson notches first career 20 goal season

This summer, former Capitals’ fourth-line forward Alex Chiasson joined the Edmonton Oilers on a PTO.

Wednesday night, the Stanley Cup champion notched his 20th goal of the season on the power play, the first time Chiasson’s ever done that in his career.

Alex Chiasson leaves Edmonton Oilers game due to injury

Former Capital Alex Chiasson is having a career year in Edmonton, but he experienced his first bout of bad luck Thursday in a game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Chiasson was forced to leave the game due to a left leg injury.

Alex Chiasson only needed 27 games to set a new career high in goals this season

Former Capital and Stanley Cup Champion Alex Chiasson set a new career high in goals Friday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

With a quick flick of his wrists in front of the net, Chiasson scored his 14th goal of the season.

Chiasson’s previous career high was 13 set in the 2013-14 season with the Dallas Stars.

It only took Chaser 27 games to reach the new mark.

Alex Chiasson has 11 goals, needs two more to match career-high

Alex Chiasson is having one heck of a season. After scoring yesterday against the Los Angeles Kings, Chiasson now has 11 goals in 19 games. Chiasson’s career high is 13 goals in 79 games during his 2013-14 season with the Dallas Stars.
