Humbled TJ Oshie stumped by daughter’s second grade math homework

Injured TJ Oshie may not be on the ice with the Capitals currently, but he’s still very busy bee off of it. Oshie founded his own clothing line company, Warroad, and is the father of three children.

Thursday night, Oshie took to Twitter to detail some of the challenges he had helping his daughter with her homework. While TJ may visually understand the angles and geometry in his mastery of shootout goals, second grade math is very hard for him.

And it required his other brainiac teammates’ help.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby to replace Daniel Sprong in the lineup against Bruins

The Washington Capitals will take on the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. And they will do so with a different lineup.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, who is having a career year in Hershey, will skate on the Capitals’ third line with Lars Eller and Connor McMichael. Daniel Sprong, who has been playing some good hockey lately, appears set to be a healthy scratch.

Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie to miss Sunday’s game against Devils due to illness

The Washington Capitals finally looked like they were getting healthy. And then a non-COVID illness struck. First, it took Lars Eller out of the lineup. Now Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie will be unable to suit up in Sunday’s game.

For Backstrom, it’s the second time he’s had to sit out again since coming back from a hip injury that kept him out of the first two months of the season.

Five Capitals players in protocol return for New Year’s Day practice as Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, and Carlson take maintenance days

The Washington Capitals held practice on New Year’s Day and saw the return of five players, who technically remain in COVID-19 protocol.

Dennis Cholowski, Nick Jensen, Justin Schultz, Daniel Sprong, and Vitek Vanecek all took part in the skate, according to the Caps’ Mike Vogel.

Meanwhile, there were a lot of players missing for various reasons.

Capitals-Flyers game postponed after Justin Schultz and Daniel Sprong pulled from morning skate

The NHL’s pause due to the COVID-19 outbreak begins on Wednesday. But today is Tuesday. The COVID-ravaged Capitals were scheduled to play the Flyers and the disease was still prevalent.

Alex Ovechkin screams at Daniel Sprong at bench, Sprong responds with goal in second period and they hug it out

Noted lover of goals and celebrating, Alex Ovechkin, was full of emotion against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. The Capitals had five regulars in COVID-19 protocol and defenseman Matt Irwin playing forward. But the captain was not in the mood to accept any excuses or lackadaisical plays.

Late in the first period, Ovechkin’s fieriness came out after a Capitals’ power play failed to produce anything except a dangerous Winnipeg Jets shorthanded chance the other way.

Ovechkin, sitting at the bench, unloaded on Daniel Sprong as the Dutch forward went off for a shift change.

TJ Oshie and Nic Dowd are game-time decisions against the Sharks

The Washington Capitals are in San Jose for one more pair of back-to-back games on the West Coast. And they may see a return of two key veterans tonight against the Sharks.

TJ Oshie and Nic Dowd took the morning skate, and after fully participating in practice on Friday, are game-time decisions per The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir. Daniel Sprong, who suffered a leg injury during Friday’s skate, is healthy and will play.

Daniel Sprong leaves ice with trainer after injuring right leg during practice (Updated)

The injury bug continues to bite the Washington Capitals.

Friday, as the team practiced at the San Jose Sharks’ practice facility (Solar4America Ice at San Jose), Daniel Sprong left the ice with the team’s trainer, Jason Serbus, after injuring his right leg.

Peter Laviolette on scratching Daniel Sprong: ‘There are 13 forwards here and just based on play, we decided to make that decision’

After six straight games in the lineup to start the season, Daniel Sprong was scratched by Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Capitals would go on to lose to the Red Wings 3-2 in overtime and a noticeable early-season trend continued in the game. The Caps young players are being limited by their ice time.
