It’s the second week in a row a Capitals player has earned the honor — Charlie Lindgren was the other — and the second week in a row Tage Thompson has (questionably) finished second.

Washington Nationals legend Ryan Zimmerman recently took to Instagram to congratulate his friend Alex Ovechkin on reaching the 800-goal milestone.
Zimmerman, who recently retired from the MLB, spent his entire career with the Nationals, winning a World Series in 2019.
“Congrats on #800, @aleksandrovechkinofficial!!” Zimmerman said. “Been a pleasure to watch you over the years and look forward to many more 🐐”

All eyes were on Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin after The Great Eight got off the ice at Thursday’s morning skate. The newly minted 800 career goal scorer met with the press to talk about hitting 800 goals, what it meant to his family, and what may lie ahead milestone-wise.
The most humorous part of the conversation happened when Ovechkin was asked about the celebratory beer shower he received from his teammates inside the locker room.
“It was great,” Ovechkin said. “I love beers.”

On Tuesday night Alex Ovechkin became the third player in NHL history to score 800 goals. Ovechkin scored a hat trick against the Chicago Blackhawks, spurring a standing ovation from the United Center crowd.
The NHL celebrated the historic moment by putting together a video of all 800 of Ovechkin’s goals.
The video is fifteen minutes and 31 seconds long and set to the William Tell Overture. That sounds like a long time for each goal, but when you do the math, it’s only 1.16 seconds per goal.
The answer to the trivia question in fifty years of who exactly got the primary assist on Alex Ovechkin‘s 800th career goal will be Anthony Mantha. The big winger got the first of his two points against the Chicago Blackhawks on the huge milestone tally.
It’s a goal that the Quebec native says he saw coming way before the puck had even dropped on Tuesday night.
