Alex Ovechkin scored one of the biggest goals of his career, one year ago today.
The Russian machine tallied milestone goal number 700 against the New Jersey Devils. Ovi rifled the puck past goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood with a blistering one-timer. Ovechkin was mobbed on the ice by his teammates.

After scoring his 700th goal against the New Jersey Devils on February 22, the Washington Capitals promised Ovechkin a fancy watch from Hublot during a pregame ceremony against the Winnipeg Jets.
A week after becoming the eighth player ever to hit 700 goals, Alex Ovechkin took to Instagram to thank literally everyone in his life, including fans for their support.
“Thanks to my family, my boys, trainers, coaches and Caps staff for helping me to this point. Huge thx to all fans for always supporting me and our team ❤ #700vi” Ovechkin wrote.

The Washington Capitals commissioned local artist Shawn Perkins (website) to create a mural celebrating Alex Ovechkin scoring 700 goals. The painting is located at Bar Deco, which is a block away from Capital One Arena (717 6th St NW).
“We ❤️ our @capitals and we’re not afraid to show it,” Bar Deco wrote on Instagram. “Do as they said and stop by and snap a picture with our art by @sptheplug honoring @aleksandrovechkinofficial’s historic 700 goals.”
The Washington Capitals hosted a pregame ceremony honoring Alex Ovechkin scoring 700 career goals Tuesday and it appears Capitals fans weren’t the only ones in awe of Ovechkin’s latest milestone.
According to fans watching pregame, the Winnipeg Jets, who were the Capitals’ opponents that night, kept stacks of commemorative warmup pucks as souvenirs. The pucks featured the Ovechkin 700 logo that was also printed on commemorative towels the Capitals gave out to every fan in attendance.

After the game, Alex Ovechkin revealed that he was grateful for the pregame ceremony the Capitals hosted in honor of his 700th career goal.
“Thanks again for everything this organization has [done] for me,” Ovechkin said. “It’s a pretty cool moment.”
But it was his one-year-old son, Sergei, who made the ceremony especially memorable. Sergei made a cameo in the team’s tribute video and hugged on his dad throughout the ceremony.

Alex Ovechkin was honored in a pregame ceremony by the Washington Capitals after scoring his 700th career goal Saturday against the Devils.
Ovechkin left the Capitals bench after an introduction video aired on the jumbotron and joined his son Sergei, his wife Nastya (who’s expecting baby number two), Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis, president Dick Patrick, and NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly who were already on the ice.
By the end of the ceremony, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

The Washington Capitals will celebrate Alex Ovechkin’s 700th goal in a special pregame ceremony tonight before the Winnipeg Jets. All fans in attendance will get a special Alex Ovechkin 700 jersey towel.
This morning, ahead of the game, the Capital One Arena staff laid those towels on every seat of the arena, spelling out OVI on one half of the lower bowl and 700 in the other.
It’s picturesque and beautiful; it’s a wonderful tribute.
Fans attending tonight’s Capitals game against the Winnipeg Jets can possibly pick themselves up a sweet pre-game treat.
The Capitals will be honoring captain Alex Ovechkin tonight for scoring his 700th career NHL goal on February 22 against the Devils, and all fans in attendance will be receiving a special 700VI rally towel.
The first 700 fans to visit the Dunkin’ kiosk at Capital One Arena will get a free #700VI-themed donut, as well as a Dunkin’ gift card. The donut is filled with vanilla buttercream and topped with vanilla frosting and #700Vi-themed artwork.
