After Alex Ovechkin scored his 700th goal, the Washington Capitals left the bench and mobbed the Russian machine at center ice. What would happen next was anyone’s guess as the game was held in New Jersey at the Prudential Center in front of mostly opposition fans.
But the Devils and their supporters showed a ton of class. Putting aside the fact that Ovechkin’s goal tied the game 2-2 in the third period, fans rose to their feet and gave Ovechkin a standing ovation.
During the TV timeout, Devils PA announcer Kevin Clark recognized The Great 8 for his accomplishment and the crowd roared.
