The mic’d up video of Alex Ovechkin scoring 700 goals was only 13 seconds long because there was so much cursing

NBC Sports Washington put a mic on Alex Ovechkin before the Washington Capitals’ game against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

The sports network captured audio from Ovechkin’s historic 700th career goal – except there was one tiny problem. It couldn’t air much of it.

I’ll let Joe Beninati explain.

Video

“Alex Ovechkin has been wearing a microphone for us and when he cashed in on number 700, it sounded like this,” Beninati said as he tossed to the clip.

We watch as Ovechkin scores. He lets out a loud “WOOOOOOOOOO!”

The video then harshly cuts to the Capitals celebrating with Ovechkin at center ice.

The players chant in a huddle “HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY HEY!”

Two players can be heard saying, “Attaboy, O!”

The video lasted only 13 seconds.

“There are a lot of other greetings and salutations in that huddle that we couldn’t share with you,” Beninati said in an amused tone. “Trust me, the boys were thrilled.”

“It’s hockey talk, Joe!” Craig Laughlin said.

The Capitals later posted the video on social media and edited out the bad language. The footage is bleeped… a lot.
