Capitals keep forward group together that got blown out against the Leafs

The Washington Capitals continue their lengthy road trip on Saturday with another matchup north of the border. They’ll look to bounce back from their lopsided defeat in Toronto against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre.

The team Capitals to the ice in Montreal for their morning skate and did so with Dmitry Orlov, who was a full participant in line rushes. The Russian defenseman has missed the past two games with a lower-body injury.

Dmitry Orlov misses morning skate with lower-body injury, Connor McMichael set to be scratch against Flyers

The Washington Capitals are set to take on the Philadelphia Flyers at home on Tuesday night. It looks like they’ll do so without arguably their best defenseman.

The team hit the ice for their morning skate but did so without Dmitry Orlov. The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir reports that the Russian defenseman is nursing a lower-body injury.

Nicklas Backstrom to miss game against Bruins due to ‘body maintenance’

The Washington Capitals wrapped up their latest victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at around 6 PM EST on Saturday. Less than 24 hours later they’re scheduled to take on the Boston Bruins in back-to-back afternoon games.

That quick turnaround will keep veteran center Nicklas Backstrom out of the game. The team announced less than an hour before puck drop that Backstrom would miss out against the Bruins due to “body maintenance”.

Conor Sheary misses practice with non-COVID illness, Garnet Hathaway returns to ice and skates with top line

Friday, the Washington Capitals hit the practice ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for the first time since they secured a big two points at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Caps are preparing for back-to-back afternoon games this weekend against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins.

Before practice, the team told The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell that forward Conor Sheary would miss the skate with a non-COVID illness. Meanwhile, forward Garnet Hathaway returns from an identical situation that saw him miss the game against the Lightning.

Ilya Samsonov to start against Lightning as Capitals ‘work through some things in the room’

The Washington Capitals are set to do battle with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night as the team looks to bounce back from two consecutive big losses on home ice.

Head coach Peter Laviolette has been heavily tinkering with his lines the last two days at practice but the only confirmed lineup news we got at the team’s optional morning skate is that Ilya Samsonov will start in net.

It will be Sammy’s first start since March 25 his fifth overall since March 1.

Peter Laviolette tinkers with lines again ahead of Lightning game

The Washington Capitals practiced Tuesday for the second straight day before they’re set to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Wednesday night’s game will be the Caps’ first since getting beat up on home ice by the Minnesota Wild 5-1.

After the big loss to the Wild, head coach Peter Laviolette put his forward lines into a blender at Monday’s practice. It looks like he has decided to do that again Tuesday as the team tries to find the right fits among the forward group.

Peter Laviolette puts lines back in blender after another blowout loss at home

The Washington Capitals have been outscored 11-2 on home ice in their last two games as head coach Peter Laviolette struggles to find balance among his forward lines.

The team practiced Monday after their latest loss to the Minnesota Wild and the line blender was turned right back on as the brass tries to figure out how they’ll look against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday.

Connor McMichael appears set to be healthy scratch against Minnesota, Johan Larsson to make Caps debut

The Washington Capitals hit the ice Sunday morning before a date with the Minnesota Wild at Capital One Arena. It’s the first time the team will see game action since getting blown out by the Carolina Hurricanes 6-1 almost a week ago.

Head coach Peter Laviolette looks to have responded to that big loss by crafting an almost entirely new lineup, bolstered by the return from injury of multiple skaters. Most notably, however, The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell reports that a surging Connor McMichael appears set to be deemed extra as a healthy scratch.

Tom Wilson returns to top line duty, Vitek Vanecek to start against Hurricanes

The Washington Capitals skated Monday morning before their final regular-season game with the Carolina Hurricanes. The Caps will look to complete the series sweep of the Hurricanes on home ice after winning the prior three meetings.

Head coach Peter Laviolette tinkered with his lines during the morning skate, promoting Tom Wilson back to the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov per The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell. Wilson scored his 20th goal of the season Saturday against the New Jersey Devils and set a new career-high in points two games ago.

Nic Dowd back from injury against Sabres, Ilya Samsonov to start (updated)

Update: Nic Dowd did not take the ice during warmups and will not play against the Sabres. The Caps will go with eleven forwards and seven defensemen. Connor McMichael moves back to center.

The Washington Capitals hit the ice Friday for their morning skate in Buffalo before taking on the Sabres at KeyBank Center. After dropping two straight on home ice in regulation, head coach Peter Laviolette has shaken up his team.

Among the changes according to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell, is the return of Nic Dowd, who has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury. He will take up his usual position between Axel Jonsson-Fjallby and Garnet Hathaway on the Caps energy line.
