Joe Snively stays in top-six after three-point performance in Montreal, Alex Ovechkin reunited with Nicklas Backstrom on top line

The Washington Capitals held their first practice on Saturday since returning from Montreal with a 5-2 win. The team prepared for its Super Bowl Sunday date with the Ottawa Senators.

The Capitals’ offensive star of the Habs game was Joe Snively who scored twice, including his first NHL goal, and posted three points.

Saturday, Snively remained in the top-six forward group during line rushes.

Pheonix Copley to get surprise start against Columbus

The Washington Capitals took their morning skate Tuesday before a Metropolitan Division matchup with the Columbus Blue Jackets at Capital One Arena.

Pheonix Copley was the first goaltender off of the ice and will make his first NHL start for the Capitals since April 6, 2019. Copley will get the start over Ilya Samsonov.

TJ Oshie will not play again before All-Star break, Joe Snively remains in lineup after successful second NHL game

The Washington Capitals had a full day of practice Monday after a scheduled day off and an optional practice directly followed their latest win over the Dallas Stars.

According to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell, head coach Peter Laviolette said that the team does not expect TJ Oshie to get into a game before the All-Star break. Oshie has not been practicing with the team.

One of the beneficiaries of that is Joe Snively who got into his second career NHL game against the Stars. He has impressed Laviolette enough to remain a full participant in line rushes on the third line and looks set to keep his spot in the lineup come gametime.

Connor McMichael to be the healthy scratch against Sharks

Connor McMichael will not play against the San Jose Sharks, Wednesday.

The Washington Capitals’ rookie forward will sit after playing sparingly on the second line Monday against the Vegas Golden Knights. He will be replaced in the lineup by Daniel Sprong, who had been the healthy scratch for three straight games.

Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom reunited on top line, John Carlson and Dmitry Orlov return

The Washington Capitals will look to start a winning streak Monday night as they host the Vegas Golden Knights in DC for the first time in more than two years.

They’ll do so with a very familiar top-line duo reunited and two of their top three defensemen returning to the lineup.

Nick Jensen, John Carlson, and TJ Oshie all appear likely to miss Senators game, Daniel Sprong a healthy scratch

The Washington Capitals will take on the Ottawa Senators, Saturday night. They will do so with a defense that likely does not include Nick Jensen.

Jensen suffered an upper-body injury late in Thursday’s loss to the Boston Bruins. According to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell, he took the ice this morning but left before the official skate began.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby to replace Daniel Sprong in the lineup against Bruins

The Washington Capitals will take on the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. And they will do so with a different lineup.

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, who is having a career year in Hershey, will skate on the Capitals’ third line with Lars Eller and Connor McMichael. Daniel Sprong, who has been playing some good hockey lately, appears set to be a healthy scratch.

Lines: Garnet Hathaway skates on top line as TJ Oshie misses morning skate with upper-body injury

The Washington Capitals have had to put their lineup into a blender again as a handful of players are out with injury or are unavailable due to COVID-19 protocol.

TJ Oshie, who missed Sunday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, did not take the morning skate as he continues to recover from an upper-body injury. The same goes for Conor Sheary and John Carlson who remain out due to the aforementioned COVID protocol.

Alex Ovechkin returns and fully participates in practice after injury concerns

After missing the Capitals’ last two skates due to injury, Alex Ovechkin returned to the ice on Friday and fully participated in practice.

According to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir, Ovechkin came out early before practice started to warm up. He then stayed on the ice for drills and line rushes.

Alex Ovechkin misses practice with third maintenance day in last two weeks

The Washington Capitals held practice on Tuesday, a day after taking a 7-3 beating by the Boston Bruins.

Captain Alex Ovechkin was absent and took his third maintenance day in the month of January. Other than Carl Hagelin and Dmitry Orlov, who remain out due to COVID protocol, Ovi was the only skater missing, according to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir.
