Tom Wilson skates for second straight day, but will not play in Game Six

The Washington Capitals face a 3-2 series hole against the Florida Panthers and will play in its first elimination game of the playoffs during Game Six, Friday night.

Behind-the-scenes, RMNB learned exclusively that Tom Wilson skated on Thursday afternoon shortly after the Capitals’ team plane landed back in DC. The skate was believed to be Wilson’s first since suffering a lower-body injury early during Game One. The Capitals said it was a part of Wilson’s rehab.

Wilson took the ice again on Friday but did not join his teammates on the ice.

Capitals lineup remains the same before Game Five, Tom Wilson doesn’t skate

The Washington Capitals are back in Sunrise, Florida for Game Five as their first-round series with the Panthers has turned into a best-of-three after the Panthers took Game Four in DC. The Caps can give themselves the opportunity to clinch on home ice in Game Six if they can win on the road Wednesday night.

According to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell, Tom Wilson did not appear at the Capitals morning skate despite traveling with the team on their trip down south. Instead, the Caps lineup has remained exactly the same from the previous two games.

Connor McMichael stays in lineup for Game Four, Tom Wilson set to miss third-straight with lower-body injury

The Washington Capitals will look to extend their first-round series lead over the Florida Panthers on home ice in Game Four.

Tom Wilson did not participate in the Capitals’ morning skate and appears set to miss his third-straight game due to a lower-body injury.

Rookie forward Connor McMichael, who claimed Wilson’s vacated roster spot in Game Three, will remain in the lineup. McMichael got his first taste of NHL playoff action on Saturday, skating 8:35 of ice time on the left wing of the third line.

Tom Wilson misses morning skate before Game Two in Florida, causing Capitals bottom six to be jumbled

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson was injured early in Game One against the Florida Panthers and the team said the rugged winger would be a game-time decision for Game Two.

If the morning skate is any indication, Wilson playing is not looking likely. Wilson was not present at the morning skate according to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell.

Alex Ovechkin is full participant in Sunday practice before first round series against Panthers

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin missed the final three games of the regular season with an upper-body injury that he sustained on April 24 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Great Eight skated at a couple of practices during his time out of the lineup but was still deemed unavailable for the games by head coach Peter Laviolette.

According to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir, it sure looks like Ovi is back as he was a full participant at Sunday’s practice and back in his usual top-line, left-wing role.

Alex Ovechkin takes ice at Capitals morning skate but will not play Thursday night against Islanders

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin took the ice at the team’s morning skate inside of UBS Arena on Thursday. Ovi did not skate at all on Tuesday before or during the Caps home loss to the Islanders due to the upper-body injury he suffered against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ovi’s upper-body injury will keep him out for the second straight game. Although he was out there with his teammates in a regular jersey, he did not fully participate in line rushes and head coach Peter Laviolette declared him unavailable according to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell afterward.

Alex Ovechkin misses morning skate with upper-body injury, officially a game-time decision against Islanders

Alex Ovechkin missed the Capitals’ morning skate on Tuesday due to the upper-body injury that he suffered Sunday against the Leafs. Ovechkin, who is day-to-day, was replaced by Connor McMichael on the first line.

Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette said after the skate that Ovechkin is officially a game-time decision per The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell.

The Capitals are wrapping up the home portion of their regular-season schedule Tuesday night against the New York Islanders. It will be the first of two consecutive games against the Isles as the Caps will travel to Long Island on Thursday.

Vitek Vanecek to get start in net against Arizona, Capitals to go with same forward and defense lineup that played in Vegas

The Washington Capitals will wrap up the longest road trip of their season against the league-worst Arizona Coyotes. It will be Washington’s last trip to Gila River Arena before the Coyotes move into Arizona State’s multi-purpose stadium next season.

At Friday’s morning skate was a familiar lineup as head coach Peter Laviolette declined to make any changes to his squad that lost 4-3 in overtime to the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday. The only new face taking on the Coyotes will be Vitek Vanecek as according to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir, the Czech netminder will get his first start in six days.

Tom Wilson flipped back to top line for Capitals’ game against Vegas Golden Knights

The Washington Capitals continue their five-game road trip tonight in Sin City and it’s a big one. With a win against the Golden Knights, the Capitals would pass the Penguins for third in the division and get out of the dreaded second wild card spot.

Head coach Peter Laviolette fiddled with his forward lines once again during the morning skate. Tom Wilson was reunited with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov on the team’s top line. That change has shuffled TJ Oshie to the third line.

Capitals reunite ‘TKO Line’ as team shakes up top-six forward group before game against Avalanche

The Washington Capitals’ lengthy road trip has left Canada and headed westward. Monday the Caps are in Colorado to take on the high-flying Avalanche.

During the morning skate, Peter Laviolette chose to shake up his top-six forward group after scoring eight goals against the Montreal Canadiens and giving up eight goals against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The main movers in the lineup were TJ Oshie and Conor Sheary as they’ll flip-flop right-wing places in the top-six. Oshie’s move to the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov reunites a trio that has had scoring success in the past and was once coined the “TKO Line”.
