Bad blood: Radko Gudas’s fights with Tom Wilson, Devante Smith-Pelly, and…Andre Burakovsky?

Radko Gudas came to the Capitals in an early off-season trade that sent Matt Niskanen to Philadelphia. The 6’0″, 204-pound defenseman has been in nineteen NHL fights since the 2012-13 season. Eight of those were for the Tampa Bay Lightning and more recently eleven with the Flyers.

Tom Wilson on Alex Ovechkin’s fight with Andrei Svechnikov: He knocked him out with ‘not even his dominant hand’

Tom Wilson went on the Cabbie Presents Podcast along with Calgary Flames forward Sean Monahan. The two talked about a wide variety of topics including fighting. After no commenting initially on Alex Ovechkin’s vicious knockout of Andrei Svechnikov in the playoffs, Wilson spoke about the fight with TSN’s Cabbie Richards.

“They were battling for a while before that, no one really realized,” Wilson, Ovechkin’s line-mate on the first line, said. “End of the regular season, they were really going at it and [the fight] was kind of the peak of the confrontation. And Ovi’s a lefty. He’ll tell him, that’s not even his dominant hand.”

“At first, I’m like, ‘Oh god, don’t get hurt, Ovi,’” Wilson said. “At first thought, it was ‘Why is Ovi fighting?’ Then it was, ‘Oh. Oh no.’ And then, it is what it is.”

Ovechkin’s fight went viral and the knockout was so impressive, the UFC and former double champion Conor McGregor commented on it.

“A proper Russian,” McGregor said.

It appears Erik Cernak lost a tooth after fighting Tom Wilson

After several run-ins earlier in the month, Tom Wilson and Erik Cernak fought with 7:47 remaining in the Capitals’ 6-3 win Saturday night.

The spirited bout ended when Wilson landed a right cross to Cernak’s mouth, dropping the enforcer to the ice holding his face.

Sunday, social media appears to have figured out what happened to Cernak. Wilson apparently knocked out one of Cernak’s front teeth.

Jakub Vrana gets in first NHL fight after Michal Kempny injured in scrum

The Caps-Bolts rematch on Wednesday has been a busy affair. The second period saw six goals in 15 minutes, but after that is when stuff really went down.

As Cedric Paquette took Michal Kempny down to the ice, injuring the Capitals defenseman’s leg, Jakub Vrana got in his first career NHL fight with Yanni Gourde.

Kempny looks real bad.

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Ian Cole reportedly missed practice Friday at MedStar Capitals Iceplex and is likely injured after his fight with Tom Wilson.

Tom Wilson bloodies Ian Cole in fight after Avalanche defenseman’s blindside hit on Evgeny Kuznetsov

Tom Wilson was effectively ejected from the Capitals-Avalanche game in the third period after coming to the defense of Evgeny Kuznetsov. Kuzy was targeted with a blindside headshot by Avalanche defenseman Ian Cole, sending the Caps center to the quiet room for concussion protocol.

In a rage, Wilson threw his gloves off and instigated a fight with Cole, raining uppercuts to the hockey player’s face.

Cole was bloodied in the bout and was ejected from the game.

Brooks Orpik fights Matthew Tkachuk, Braden Holtby gets involved in postgame brawl with Flames

The Washington Capitals were desperate to end their seven-game losing streak. That fact was no more evident in the final seconds of the third period against the Calgary Flames.

As the buzzer hit zero, Nicklas Backstrom sent Flames superstar Johnny Gaudreau flying into the end boards with a shoulder to the chest.

The hit sent a competitive game overboard. The two teams intertwined in a violent, angry hug.

“There was a lot of emotion on both sides,” Tom Wilson said postgame. “Two good teams that want to win. We were playing hard right to the end there. It was loud. We were doing whatever it took to get the job done. That includes defending each other and sticking together at the end.”

Braden Holtby even got involved!

Tom Wilson and Austin Watson throw down in a heavyweight fight

The Washington Capitals looked listless in their second game in as many nights, falling behind 5-1 to the Nashville Predators through the first 35 minutes of the game.

Tom Wilson, perhaps desperate to spark his team, dropped his gloves with fellow hockey behemoth, Austin Watson, and the two rock em’ sock ’em enforcers threw hands.

Whip whipped him.
