The New York Islanders throttled the Washington Capitals 8-4 at Nassau Coliseum Thursday night and it ended with fireworks.
At the buzzer, there was a gentlemanly throwdown between two of the teams’ leaders, Zdeno Chara and Matt Martin.
The fight led to an awkward showdown between both teams at center ice that thankfully didn’t materalize into a brawl.

Tom Wilson was a busy boy in Friday’s Capitals-Bruins game.
Wilson knocked Brandon Carlo out of the game with a big hit in the first period. Later, he got in two fights with two different Bruins heavyweights.
The Capitals-Rangers game started slow but ended with fireworks and a Brenden Dillon fight.
The violent encounter started after Brendan Lemieux decided to skate through Vitek Vanecek’s crease with seconds left to go in the game. The Czech goaltender put his arm out as if to tell Lemieux you are not welcome here. Lemieux clipped Vanecek and the Czech goaltender fell to the ice.
The Capitals didn’t appreciate that gesture too much.
Monday against the Bruins, Tom Wilson fought for the first time this season. The 6-foot-4 Wilson threw hands with 6-foot-2 agitator Trent Frederic, who had 148 PIMs with the AHL Providence Bruins last season.
At the time, the Capitals were leading 3-2 with 11:11 remaining in the third period. The Capitals would go on to lose the game 5-3.

Michigan natives Dylan Larkin and Zach Werenski are longtime friends who played on the same youth hockey teams together since they were 10 years old. Monday, the two played each other in the NHL at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena – one a captain of the Red Wings and the other a star defenseman for the Blue Jackets. Larkin even left tickets for Werenski’s parents so they could attend the game.
They fought each other in the third period.

Anders Lee’s dust-up with John Carlson was apparently just his warmup bout.
Late in the first period, Tom Wilson challenged Lee to drop his gloves after the Islanders nailed Nicklas Backstrom with a dirty hit to start the game.
Lee obliged and he probably shouldn’t have.

The Rangers-Hurricanes series got real fast.
After a goal and several big hits, 38-year-old Justin Williams dropped the gloves with Ryan Strome two minutes and forty-eight seconds into the game.
The former Capital won the fight.
For those of you who like violence in your hockey, there was a lot of hacking, whacking, and face-punching in the Boston Bruins-Tampa Bay Lightning game, Saturday night.
In the second period, there was an all-out line brawl after Anthony Cirelli cross-checked future Hall of Famer Zdeno Chara to the ice from behind.
NESN’s Jack Edwards, who’s notorious for his homerific and over-the-top commentating, had the call.
