Brandon Duhaime was acknowledged for sticking up for a teammate after the Washington Capitals’ 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings, Tuesday.

Late in the second period, former Capitals defenseman Joel Edmundson leveled Ethen Frank with a clean but heavy hit along the sideboards. After a shift change, Duhaime skated out and immediately avenged the rough run, dropping the gloves with Edmundson.

Edmundson got the best of Duhaime in the fight, walloping him with an uppercut and another solid right. The two players got five minutes each for fighting at 19:05 of the second period, while Duhaime got an extra roughing minor for starting the bout.

When the players were released from the penalty box in the third period, the Capitals gave their teammate a loud stick salute as he returned to the bench — though Dewey seemed more interested in pumping Connor McMichael up than appreciating the cheers, per video from @sp00kycaps.

After the game, Duhaime got more props as well. During Spencer Carbery’s victory speech, the Capitals head coach saluted Dewey for his toughness.

“How about this f***ing guy stepping up for his brother,” Carbery said before giving Duhaime a new, more vulgar nickname. “Brandon ‘F***ing’ Duhaime.”

The video shows Duhaime clapping wildly for himself before saying “stop it” to his roaring teammates. The Capitals then began barking loudly, including Frank, who was shown giving his teammate a standing ovation.

The fight was Duhaime’s third of the season. He’s also dropped the gloves with the Blues’ Brayden Schenn and the Canucks’ Victor Mancini earlier in the year.
