Anders Lee’s dust-up with John Carlson was apparently just his warmup bout.
Late in the first period, Tom Wilson challenged Lee to drop his gloves after the Islanders nailed Nicklas Backstrom with a dirty hit to start the game.
Lee obliged and he probably shouldn’t have.
Check out Tom’s hands turning Lee’s face into mashed potatoes.
Goodness gracious @tom_wilso.
He laid the smacketh down on Anders Lee. pic.twitter.com/ZnmBjkPX9Q— Ian Oland (@ianoland) August 12, 2020
This hurts my face just watching it.
The first period of Game One between the Capitals and Islanders featured a ridiculous 26 penalty minutes.
Quite the feisty first period for the @NYIslanders and @Capitals 😳😅#NHLonSN pic.twitter.com/VJ8Jo6Vt7I
