It was a second consecutive right hand from Sheppard that sent a knocked out Kessy crumbling to the ice.

Both Sheppard and the linesman immediately waved over to the benches for trainers and medical personnel to come over to attend to the fallen fighter.

A stretcher was wheeled out and emergency medical staff got Kessey off the ice in under 10 minutes, according to Chocolate Hockey. A large amount of blood was revealed under towels.

Kessey was taken to the hospital where the Bears reported that he was alert and in stable condition.

“Kale Kessy was struck in a fight. He lost, but regained consciousness on the ice. He is alert, and in stable condition, and being transported to a local medical facility. Kessy told his teammates before leaving the ice, ‘go win the game.’”

The game was temporarily delayed after the teams met with AHL officials. The game re-started at 9:08 PM.

2/26 Update: Kale Kessy has been released from the hospital.

Kessy thanked Bears fans for their support.
