Boone Jenner did not waste any time getting into his new Washington Capitals gear.
Jenner was caught rocking his new Caps jersey, pants, Warrior gloves, and helmet while taking part in workouts at London Sports Park in London, Ontario, this week.
Jenner was joined on the ice by prospects Johnny McLaughlin (OHL, Windsor Spitfires), Josh Brown (Edmonton Oilers prospect), and Jacob Julien (Winnipeg Jets prospect). Both Brown and Julien are on NHL entry-level contracts while McLaughlin is going into his second year with the Spitfires.
The skates were led by Kathy McLlwain, a professional skating coach who is the owner of Power Blades Skating Development. McLlwain has also notably worked with New York Islanders forward Bo Horvat in the past.
In reels posted to Instagram, Jenner can be seen doing a drill working on his edges and stick-handling while rocking a red Capitals practice sweater.
He also did a drill working on his lateral skating and stops at the blue line.
Jenner signed a four-year, $23 million contract with the Capitals on the first day of free agency that will pay the former Columbus Blue Jackets captain an average of $5.75 million annually.
Jenner projects to play center or on the wing of the fourth line next season and will be part of a new look Capitals team that also now includes Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, and Vincent Descharnais during the offseason.
And for his part, Jenner appears very eager to get started his Caps era started.
“I’ve enjoyed my time in Columbus, and I can’t thank that city enough for what they’ve done for me,” Jenner said earlier in the month. “But for me, it’s the next chapter, and that’s where my excitement is now. And that’s with the Washington Capitals.”
