Boone Jenner is officially making his way from one Metropolitan Division team to another.
After ESPN’s Kevin Weekes linked the Washington Capitals to the former Columbus Blue Jackets captain at the 2026 NHL Draft last Friday, the Caps have indeed inked Jenner to a contract on the first day of free agency. Jenner’s deal is for four years and $23 million, costing $5.75 million against the salary cap annually.
In 67 games for the Blue Jackets this past season, Jenner recorded 38 points (13g, 25a). He played at all three strengths for Columbus, averaging 0:49 of power-play ice time per game and 1:27 of shorthanded ice time per game.
Until now, Jenner had played all 13 seasons of his NHL career with the Blue Jackets. The 33-year-old veteran can play left wing and center, frequently lining up at both positions throughout his career. He is also great in the faceoff dot, winning 52.6 percent of his draws last season and 54 percent of them over the course of his career.
Jenner was previously teammates with Pierre-Luc Dubois and coached by current Capitals skills coach Kenny McCudden while with Columbus.
According to PuckPedia, the Capitals have nearly $3.5 million left in salary cap space after signing Jenner. The team will also likely have Rasmus Sandin’s $4.6 million cap hit on long-term injured reserve at the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
