The Washington Capitals continue to see more players convene in the DC area ahead of their training camp next month.
Veteran forward Boone Jenner is the latest to show his face at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, joining many of his new teammates for an informal skate at the team’s practice facility on Monday morning.
The Capitals inked Jenner, former captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets, to a four-year, $23 million contract on the first day of free agency. The Caps will be the first NHL team other than the Blue Jackets that Jenner has played for since he made his debut during the 2013-14 campaign.
In 67 games for the Blue Jackets this past season, Jenner recorded 38 points (13g, 25a). He played at all three strengths for Columbus, averaging 0:49 of power-play ice time per game and 1:27 of shorthanded ice time per game.
Jenner was one of several big additions the Capitals made this past summer, joining a revamped forward group expected to be one of the best in the league.
“Going into free agency, you don’t know what to expect,” Jenner said in July. “And obviously, watching the moves that Washington’s making at the draft and getting Tuch, getting Kyrou, and different things, and when they call, it’s super exciting. So I couldn’t be more excited to join that group. I’ve heard nothing but great things, know a couple of the guys. So I can’t wait to get down there.”
Other notable participants in recent skates include fellow free agency signing Vincent Desharnais, Jonny Brodzinski, Alex Tuch, Logan Thompson, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Martin Fehervary, and Lynden Lakovic.
