Just a day before the calendar is set to flip into August, the Washington Capitals welcomed one of their huge offseason additions to MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
Alex Tuch, who the club inked to an 8-year, $84 million extension earlier this month, has landed in DC for the first time since his blockbuster sign-and-trade move from the Buffalo Sabres. He got his first look at his new team’s practice facilities and donned his new gear as one of the first Caps players to join informal skates at the rink ahead of training camp.

Tuch, 30, has spent the past five seasons with the Sabres, recording a career-best 79 points (36g, 43a) during the 2022-23 campaign. This past season, he finished third on the team in scoring with 66 points (33g, 33a) in 79 games, adding seven points (4g, 3a) in 13 playoff games.
The big winger will be one of several new faces on Washington’s roster this upcoming season after general manager Chris Patrick reshaped the club’s forward group through trade and free agency. Tuch has spoken about how excited he is to be joining the Capitals, especially after they kept adding to the roster once he was already convinced to make the move.
“A lot of really good improvements to the roster,” Tuch said on July 2. “I feel that much more confident in my decision to come to a team that wants to contend and wants to win.”
Tuch, the man on the other end of Braden Holtby’s “The Save” in 2018, is expected to be a factor at all strengths for the Capitals during the 2026-27 season, particularly bolstering the team’s ability to score off of the rush. He will be joined on the ice over the coming weeks by more and more of his new teammates as they return to the area before the fall.
The Capitals have yet to reveal the exact dates for their 2026 Training Camp. Last year’s camp began on September 18.
