Sunday, December 2 against the Anaheim Ducks, I was invited to Capital One Arena as a guest of the Capital One Cafe Chinatown, a new bank and coffee shop located across the street on 7th and F. Coffee and a live Capitals game? How could I say no?
The day before the event, a Capital One Cafe representative sprung a surprise on me. “Ian, you’re going to ride on the Olympia ice resurfacer during the first intermission.”
“Oh no,” I said. “What happens if people notice me and boo me when I come out?”
No one actually booed me, but it ended up being an amazing experience I’ll never forget.
Let’s just not talk about how I was bad luck and the Caps gave up a four-goal lead and lost.

During Tuesday night’s matchup against the Detroit Red Wings, a bunch of hockey fans arrived at Capital One Arena dressed as referees.
In section 423, dozens of referees cheered on the NHL officials throughout the course of the game, giving support to a faction that rarely receives it.

RMNB toured the new renovations to Capital One Arena on Tuesday and reported on the arena’s snazzy technology, new VIP lounge, and updated food offerings.
But one of the coolest additions to Capital One Arena is this new display outside of Section 108, which contains memorabilia from the 2017-18 Stanley Cup Final. It’s beautiful.

Tuesday afternoon, RMNB was invited to tour the grand re-opening of Capital One Arena. Over the summer, the sports and entertainment complex went under a $40 million renovation. Almost every part of the arena was re-touched or reconsidered from the flooring to the cupholders.
I have to admit, I was blown away by many of the new arena’s features. The $40 million went a long way and the fan experience will improve overall. And I want to write about all of those things. I do.
But… I can’t stop thinking about this new (approximately) $10 spicy chicken sandwich they gave us. Like, you guys, this is one of the greatest sandwiches I’ve ever had. I don’t go to games early. But for now on I will be. I want to eat this sandwich for dinner as many times as humanly possible.
Seriously. It’s THAT good.

In 2014, the Capitals revealed a hat-trick display at the then-Verizon Center. Featuring glass see-through bins near section 110, the Capitals displayed hats thrown to the ice during recent home hat tricks.
When you have Alex Ovechkin on your team, however, those bins fill up fairly quickly. And at the end of last season, the display was already at capacity and a revamp was needed.
In September, the new hat trick bin was revealed as part of $40 million renovations to Capital One Arena.
Here’s a first look.
On Monday, the Capital One Arena held a grand re-opening event of the arena’s newly-renovated team store. Lars Eller, Peter Bondra, and the Wizard’s Phil Chenier were scheduled to appear at the fan event at noon.
Eller, Bondra, and Chenier were all lined up in front of the team store for a photo when suddenly a surprise guest appeared: Alex Ovechkin.

Tuesday night, Capital One Arena opened its doors to hockey fans for the first time since the Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup.
Over the offseason, the 21-year-old arena underwent a $40 million renovation, which will continue until Opening Night. One improvement we can report on is the cupholders in the arena’s new seats.
Spilled beers will be a thing of the past. The brand new cupholders have bottoms that will contain any venue-provided beverage.

On Monday, Capital One Arena built the ice surface for the Capitals’ 2018-19 season. The ice, when finished, will be maintained for the rest of the rest of the hockey season, which begins with Tuesday night’s preseason game against the Bruins.

Over the course of the offseason, Capital One Arena has undergone a $40 million renovation. In addition to a new on-ice projection system, updated concessions, and an improoved sound system, one of the biggest pieces of news stemming from the renovation from the announcement was that all the seats in the arena would be replaced.
Bye-bye, purple chairs of Ye Olde MCI Center days, hello sleek black seats (with hopefully better cupholders).
Back in late June, it was revealed that cushions from said purple seats were now for sale for collectors.
But now, collectors wanting more than just the cushion can purchase full seats in pairs.
