MSE Foundation announces Casino Night fundraiser will no longer sell individual tickets

The annual Capitals Casino night will no longer be open to individual attendees as it shifts to a “corporate sponsorship structure,” according to an email Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation is sending to attendees of previous Casino Nights in an email today.

MSE Foundation is the charitable arm of the organization that owns the Capitals. Its popular Casino Night had been a highlight of the social calendar for many fans because it offered a unique opportunity to rub shoulders with players, coaches, and other team personnel.

Caleb Green, Voices of Service end America’s Got Talent run with fifth place finish

Washington Capitals anthem singer Caleb Green and his singing group Voices of Service wrapped up an amazing summer Wednesday night with a top-5 finish in America’s Got Talent.

Though they didn’t win the massive talent contest, Voices of Service certainly succeeded in their mission to raise awareness and bring hope and encouragement to other veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health challenges.

The group of talented veterans and active-duty service members ended their run on AGT during the results show with a moving performance of “Some Gave All” with country music legend Billy Ray Cyrus.

Caleb Green and Voices of Service pass through to America’s Got Talent semifinals

Washington Capitals anthem singer Caleb Green and his ensemble Voices of Service have made it through the first round of public voting on America’s Got Talent and will perform in the show’s semifinals later this month.

In a dramatic moment during Wednesday night’s results show, Voice of Service was put up against Kodi Lee, an inspiring singer who is blind and has autism. But in an unexpected twist, both Lee and Voices of Service passed through to the next round.

Former Caps forward Mike Knuble is signing autographs at a Frederick Keys game

Cancel your dinner reservations for tonight. Sell your tickets to see Ski Mask The Slump God at The Anthem. You just made new plans to go hang out with Mike Knuble at a minor league baseball game in Frederick, Maryland.

The former Capitals forward, now an assistant coach of the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins, was originally scheduled to appear at a Frederick Keys game in May 2018, but torrential rains flooded much of the city — including Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium where the Keys play — and forced a postponement of the appearance. The Key announced yesterday that Knuble will now appear as part of the team’s #ALLCAPS promotion night on Friday, May 17. That’s tonight!

DC Council to vote on proposal to fund Fort Dupont Ice Arena

After a back-and-forth over funding for a proposed expansion of the Fort Dupont Ice Arena in recent months, the DC Council is set to debate and vote on a proposal that would allocate more than $25 million to the project.

Councilmember Vincent Gray has proposed that the rink be fully funded in next year’s District budget, and the new two-rink ice arena can begin construction next year if the Council approves the proposal. Councilmembers are scheduled to review the proposal on Wednesday, with a vote scheduled for next Tuesday, May 14. Fort Dupont leaders are encouraging supporters to email DC councilmembers and encourage them to support the plan.

Here are 7 Nic Dowd puns that are better than ‘Dowder Power’

Forward Nic Dowd scored a pretty important goal in the Capital’s 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night. The goal was not only Dowd’s eighth of the season, a career high, but it also won the game and clinched the Capitals’ fourth consecutive Metropolitan Division title. (It also came just two days after Dowd also scored goal that clinched the Caps’ playoff spot.)

But the goal also created some controversy. After the second-period tally, the Capitals social media team tweeted out an image of Dowd with the caption, “Dowder Power,” a direct attack on power-related puns that actually work.

Tampa Bay Lightning clinch Presidents’ Trophy before any Eastern Conference team secures a playoff spot

With a 4-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning clinched the top seed in the Atlantic Division, first place in the Eastern Conference, and the 2018-2019 Presidents’ Trophy.

The Bolts accomplished this so quickly that no other Eastern Conference team has even managed to secure a playoff spot yet, and the only team to do so out of the West is the Calgary Flames.

This is the first time in franchise history that the Tampa Bay Lightning have won the Presidents’ Trophy.

Riley Barber now leads the AHL in goals after scoring twice in 5-1 win over Bridgeport

Capitals prospect Riley Barber scored twice in the Hershey Bears’ 5-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night, giving him a league-leading 31 goals on the season.

In his fourth season in the AHL, the 25-year-old Barber has his first season with more than 30 goals. His previous high was 26 goals in the 2015-16 season.

Once-in-a-lifetime: What it was like watching the Capitals-Red Wings game with Mike Knuble and Kelly Miller

This post is written by former Knuble’s Knights and Brouwer Rangers member Nathan Burchfiel.

When we, the Knuble’s Knights, wrote our goodbye to Mike Knuble for RMNB in July of 2012, we figured that was the last chapter in a fun phase of our lives being super fans for the hard-working, net-crashing forward. But Knuble wrote an epilogue this week and we wanted to bring you along for the ride.

The story starts back in June at the Capitals Alumni Bourbon & Cigar Fundraiser, where we were lucky enough to win an auction for “Rock the Red Wings,” a trip for two to Detroit to watch the Caps take on the Red Wings with Caps alums Knuble and Kelly Miller.

Fast-forward seven months, and we found ourselves living out a dream game day with more than a few legends.

Capitals sign Russian forward Sergei Shumakov to one-year, $925,000 deal

The Capitals on Saturday announced they have signed Russian forward Sergei Shumakov to an entry-level, one-year, two-way deal for $925,000.

The terms of the deal are as originally reported earlier in the week by Russian media. At the time, a Capitals representative declined to comment and Shumakov’s agent disputed the report noting he was in talks with several NHL teams.
