The Washington Capitals will face that bunch of jerks, the Carolina Hurricanes, in the first round of the 2018-19 Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Hurricanes had the highest likelihood of matching up with the Capitals entering Saturday. While the Hurricanes defeated the Flyers 4-3, the Penguins went into overtime against the Rangers, blocking the Canes from climbing past them.
The Canes ended their season with an overall record of 46-29-7 and 99 points.
The Capitals won all four of their regular season games against the Canes, a 6-5 win and a 3-1 win in December and more recently a 4-1 win and a 3-2 win in March.
This is the Canes’ first appearance in the playoffs in a decade. The team announced earlier in the week that they will be wearing their black alternate jerseys for the duration of their home playoff games.
The first-round schedule will be announced on Sunday morning.
