‘I don’t embrace NOTHIN’: Don Cherry doubles down on ‘bunch of jerks’ comments, calls Hurricanes fans ‘front runners’

Earlier this week, the Carolina Hurricanes swept the New York Islanders in the second round, advancing to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since 2008–09. Saturday, the Hurricanes’ success was discussed on Coach’s Corner and Don Cherry was given an opportunity to apologize after calling the Hurricanes “a bunch of jerks” earlier in the season for their postgame storm surges.

Instead, Cherry doubled down on his comments!!! And insulted the entire fan base.

His crankiness was off the charts.

Carolina Hurricanes skate out to ‘Bunch of Jerks’ ice projection in latest Storm Surge

It’s been a week and a half since Don Cherry called the Carolina Hurricanes “a bunch of jerks” for celebrating their home wins with their creative and over-the-top Storm Surges.

The Canes doubled down in the face of the controversy, embracing Cherry’s insult as a badge of pride. The team released a “Bunch of Jerks” t-shirt which sold out within the first two days.

On Tuesday, the Canes defeated the Los Angeles Kings 6-1 on home ice and had another chance to embrace their degenerate title.

‘Bunch of jerks’: Behind the scenes of the Carolina Hurricanes viral t-shirt

The Carolina Hurricanes are the big story of the NHL right now. Their unstoppable offense has won them eight of their last ten games, they stand one point out of a wild-card spot, and their post-game “storm surge” celebrations are irrepressibly fun. But Coach’s Corner co-host Don Cherry didn’t think so when he called the team “a bunch of jerks” over the weekend. The team embraced the controversy, spinning it into a successful and winsome t-shirt campaign.

The “bunch of jerks” shirts were the brainchild of BreakingT, the “real-time” sports apparel company with deep local roots.
