Four years later, Matt Niskanen trolls fan who got vulgar tattoo of him after Sidney Crosby hit

Former Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen retired in 2020 after 13 seasons in the NHL. The two-way rearguard was sturdy and dependable in his own end. Quiet and to himself off-the-ice, Nisky had a mean streak while playing and was never afraid to drop the gloves or throw a huge hit when the opportunity presented itself. He also had a long memory.

While the newly-retired Nisky has never posted a tweet or a photo on Instagram, the 34-year-old Minnesota native was internet-astute enough to settle an old social-media score with a fan from over four years ago.

Braden Holtby gets new tattoo

Braden Holtby recently went viral in Capitals circles for a tremendous social-distancing selfie he took with a fan. Several eagle-eyed readers noticed that Holtby was wearing a pink bandage over his left wrist and wondered if he was injured or wearing gloves.

Thanks to reader Ellen Arantes we now know why. Holtby got a new tattoo.

Paige Dowd shows off new tattoo honoring son Lou

From Stanley Cups to inked rings around their finger, many Capitals players and their wives have gotten tattoos over the years that represent the greatest moments of their lives (or Wario on their high thigh).

Monday, Paige Dowd took to Instagram to show off her newest tattoo: her son’s name Lou in a black, thin script on her arm.

Gerardo Parra gets incredible tattoo featuring Nationals’ World Series trophy and Baby Shark wearing red-tinted sunglasses

Gerardo Parra was only a part-time player, but he had an oversized role with the Washington Nationals during their championship season. The Venezuelan outfielder is widely credited for turning the Nationals’ season around with his walkup song, the viral children’s tune Baby Shark.

Friday, Parra commemorated the Nationals’ World Series-wining season in the most permanent way possible. The two-time gold glover got a Nationals’ championship tattoo inked on his left forearm.

And it’ll make you want to chomp with both of your arms.

Carley Matechuk, sister of Humboldt Broncos crash survivor, gets Alex Ovechkin tattoo after meeting Ovi with brother

Last April, the NHL community mourned after the Humboldt Broncos got in a traffic accident. The bus full of young teenaged players was on its way to a game against the Nipawin Hawks when it was T-boned by a transport truck. 16 people, most of whom were players, died.

Broncos player Layne Matechuk was one of 13 lucky souls to survive the crash but suffered a severe brain injury. During Layne’s rehabilitation that continues to this day, the Pittsburgh Penguins, his favorite team, gave the Saskatoon native the opportunity to go to any Pens game he wanted to meet his favorite player, Sidney Crosby. Layne ultimately picked the March 12 game against the Washington Capitals so that his sister Carley, who he is very close with, could also see the Caps and her favorite player, Alex Ovechkin, play. The game was a dream come true for the siblings. Ovechkin scored his 1200th point that night.

Six months later, Carley revealed that she got Ovechkin’s signature from that day tattooed on her ankle in a stunning tribute.

This photo-realism tattoo of Alex Ovechkin holding up the Stanley Cup is incredible

We first learned of Washington Capitals superfan Eric Brooks several years ago during a Colorado Avalanche game. Molding his hair follicles into the shape of an eight, Brooks became a viral sensation for his gr8 beard and was nicknamed the Ovechkin Beard Guy.

But last week, Brooks managed to find a way to go even more next level with his fandom and got an ultra-realistic tattoo of Alex Ovechkin holding up the Stanley Cup on his leg.

It’s incredible.

Carolina Hurricanes fan honors bet, gets tattoo of Hamilton the pig after Canes beat Capitals in Game Seven

The Carolina Hurricanes have had a good luck charm during their playoff run: a 90-pound miniature potbelly pig named Hamilton. Hamilton the pig, who is actually not named after Dougie Hamilton, lives on a farm near PNC Arena with his human dad, Kyle Eckenrode. Eckenrode first brought Hamilton to hang out at a tailgate outside of PNC Arena before the Canes’ Game Three against the Capitals. The Canes won that game.

In fact, the Canes have won all six games that Hamilton the pig has been in attendance, including Game Seven against the Capitals. During that big game in Hurricanes’ history, Hamilton the pig defied DC Health Department Code and made the road trip up to DC.

It was during Game Seven against the Capitals that Canes fan Leah Adams tweeted that she would get a tattoo of Hamilton the pig if the Canes beat the Capitals. According to Adams, the promise was her “offer to the Hockey Gods.”

The Hockey Gods listened and now Leah has a tattoo of a pig on her thigh.

Caps fan gets Wario Stanley Cup tattoo in honor of TJ Oshie

Tommy Savarie, 24, is a construction engineer currently living in Texas. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Savarie grew up watching the Richmond Renegades play and has been a Washington Capitals fan since middle school.

Savarie says he wanted to get a tattoo to celebrate the Capitals’ Stanley Cup championship last season, but he wanted something unconventional.

“After we won last spring, I was dead-set on getting a tattoo, but I couldn’t decide on what to get,” Savarie said. “Mainly because I didn’t want to just get a generic Stanley Cup with ‘2018’ on it or something of that sort.”

Stanley Cup ink: Never-before-seen photos of TJ Oshie’s Mario Kart tattoo

Everyone remembers the joyous days that followed the Capitals’ first Stanley Cup. The team attended a Nationals game where Alex Ovechkin threw out two ceremonial first pitches. The team then took the championship trophy to the Georgetown Waterfront where they invented the Cup stand and swam in the fountains.

One small, but overshadowed part of the night was when several members of the team, who appeared to be inebriated, got tattoos.

In an article in the Players’ Tribune, Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby shared more details about that night and recalled what TJ Oshie said to him at the waterfront.

“We’re doing it, dude. I’m getting a Wario tattoo,” Oshie said according to Holtby’s article. “I’M GETTING A WARIO TATTOO! HOLTS! CALL THE TATTOO GUYS!”

TJ Oshie got Wario tattooed on his leg after the Caps won the Stanley Cup

On June 9, two days after the Washington Capitals won their first Stanley Cup, TJ Oshie was one of six Caps players to celebrate by getting a tattoo at Tattoo Paradise DC.

Jakub Vrana and Andre Burakovsky’s tattoos were well documented on social media, but Oshie’s tribute to the team wasn’t known… until now.

In an interview with Uproxx’s Ryan Nagelhout, Oshie revealed that he had Wario tattooed on his leg. The explanation is worth the read.
