Braden Holtby recently went viral in Capitals circles for a tremendous social-distancing selfie he took with a fan. Several eagle-eyed readers noticed that Holtby was wearing a pink bandage over his left wrist and wondered if he was injured or wearing gloves.
Thanks to reader Ellen Arantes we now know why. Holtby got a new tattoo.

On Sunday, June 28, Braden and Brandi Holtby both got tattoos. Braden got a broken arrow tattooed under a bison head he already had. The ink was done by Billy Baits of Tattoo Paradise in DC. Holtby wore a mask during the process.
“feels good to be back @tattooparadisedc,” Billy wrote. “thank you to everyone that’s (safely😷🤒) gotten tattooed this past week! #wearamask #letsgocaps”
“I honestly don’t think there’s any particular meaning behind the broken arrow,” Ellen, who was there, said. “From the gist of our conversation, it seemed like he just thought it was a cool idea.”
Holtby already has a Stanley Cup with the DC flag tattooed on the outside of his right forearm as well as the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan on the inside. Lloydminster, Holtby’s hometown, has the unusual geographic distinction of straddling the provincial border of both provinces. The Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender also has a tattoo for a wedding ring on his finger.
