We’re basically in the All-Star Break now, so please forgive this digression into silliness.

Last weekend, Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras got into some trouble for words he said to Arizona Coyotes defender Troy Stecher during a scrum. Then a lot happened and now — for no apparent reason — Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand is publicly feuding with at least three members of the hockey press, including Steve Dangle.

Let’s figure this out together.

Steve Dangle is going through it, let’s watch

The Maple Leafs blew a 3-1 series lead and lost to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night. That prompted us to revisit the meaning of existence and share our personal hockey-grief journey. For Leafs personality and our friend Steve Dangle, the loss prompted a close examination of his very soul and maybe some yelling. This is revealing content, appropriate only for other heartbroken Leafs fans.

“If you’re a fan from another fanbase,” Dangle says. “You’re a sicko.”

Alex Ovechkin scored ‘The Goal’ against Brian Boucher in 2006. Boucher: ‘I think even he was in a state of bewilderment.’

Fourteen years ago, Alex Ovechkin scored one of the greatest and most improbable goals of all time. On January 16, 2006, Ovechkin slipped the puck past Pheonix Coyotes goaltender Brian Boucher on his backhand as he was falling and corkscrewing on the ice. Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky looked on from the bench stunned. The goal was the most brilliant tally of Ovechkin’s Calder Trophy-winning rookie season where he became only the second rookie ever to score 50 goals and 100 points.

Sportsnet recently caught up with Shane Doan, Brian Boucher, and several others who were there to relive the goal.

A lot of people don’t consider Washington DC a hockeytown. Y’all should probably do that for now on.

Early Friday morning, RMNB’s August 24 book signing event with Steve Dangle officially soldout. Dangle is a Sportsnet personality and YouTube sensation who covers the Toronto Maple Leafs and the NHL nationally. He is signing copies of his book This Team is Ruining My Life (But I Love Them): How I Became a Professional Hockey Fan. August is typically the deadest month of the year for hockey news and enthusiasm, but not on this day in the DMV.

“Apparently Washington DC stands for Washington Does Cometobookevents that are technically in Virginia,” Dangle said to me in an excited message. “LISTEN. I’m jacked to meet you all! Tom Wilson is a Torontonian.”
