A lot of people don’t consider Washington DC a hockeytown. Y’all should probably do that for now on.
Early Friday morning, RMNB’s August 24 book signing event with Steve Dangle officially soldout. Dangle is a Sportsnet personality and YouTube sensation who covers the Toronto Maple Leafs and the NHL nationally. He is signing copies of his book This Team is Ruining My Life (But I Love Them): How I Became a Professional Hockey Fan. August is typically the deadest month of the year for hockey news and enthusiasm, but not on this day in the DMV.
“Apparently Washington DC stands for Washington Does Cometobookevents that are technically in Virginia,” Dangle said to me in an excited message. “LISTEN. I’m jacked to meet you all! Tom Wilson is a Torontonian.”
I also asked One More Page Books, who is hosting the event, for their thoughts.
“Can the quote just be *excited screaming*?” Events coordinator, Rebecca Speas, asked. I said yes.
She then texted me this selfie of herself and Amanda Quain, who also works at the store.
Over 200 book tickets were sold within the first 24 hours of the Eventbrite page being announced publicly. The book signing will be the second-largest event One More Page Books has ever coordinated and their biggest in-store. Hockey fans from Georgia, Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas have reached out to RMNB telling us they’re traveling to DC.
One More Page Books (@justonemorepage) tells us this is now the biggest book signing they've ever done in-store and is second overall to an off-site signing by @PeteSouza, Barack Obama's White House photographer. No big. #HockeyTown

Fans who are still hoping to land a book ticket can join the event’s wait list in the hopes that someone else cancels. Approximately 50 extra books will be available at the book store that day and will be available first-come, first-served. RMNB will also have extra special-event Steve Dangle/RMNB merch available to be purchased on-site as well as cardboard cutouts of Steve doing a ridiculous cat pose that can be photographed with for social media. Later that night, Dangle will be hanging out with RMNB at an after-party at Walters Sports Bar from 6-9pm where he will sign books, take photos, and hang out, providing another opportunity for fans to meet him. You can RSVP here.
In the weeks and days to come, RMNB will be releasing the designs of the posters and puck that will be available to fans. You can follow RMNB on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for more information, photos, and coverage of DANGLECON DC.
And now, a personal note from me! We spent weeks and our own hard-earned money to make this event happen with no idea how it’d turn out. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for your enthusiastic support.
