The Washington Capitals are on a five-game road trip that first sees them making a visit to The Shark Tank in San Jose. The Capitals are coming off of a blowout loss to the Edmonton Oilers in their last matchup and head coach Spencer Carbery has made some tweaks to his lineup in response.
The team got on the ice for their optional morning skate on Monday and those changes to the lineup became clear. According to The Washington Post’s Bailey Johnson, the primary change will see Nicolas Aube-Kubel take a seat in the press box for the game.

The Washington Capitals made several important roster moves ahead of its game against the New Jersey Devils, Friday night.
With Anthony Mantha unable to travel on the road trip, the Capitals recalled 2022 Stanley Cup champion Nicolas Aube-Kubel from the Hershey Bears. Mantha, who was hit in the side of the head by a deflected shot, was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move.
Nic Dowd is is also back and off IR after missing the last nine games due to an upper-body injury.

The Washington Capitals placed forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel on waivers Friday as part of the trimming of their Training Camp roster to 27 players. NAK was one of six names waived for the purposes of being sent to the club’s AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday that Aube-Kubel along with Joe Snively, Hunter Shepard, Dylan McIlrath, Alex Limoges, and Michael Sgarbossa all cleared waivers.

ARLINGTON, VA — The Washington Capitals announced 11 cuts to their Training Camp roster Friday as the deadline to set their Opening Night roster approaches. Five players were sent directly to the AHL’s Hershey Bears, while six must clear waivers, including 27-year-old forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel.
Aube-Kubel is now on the waiver wire for the third consecutive season. Washington previously claimed him from the Toronto Maple Leafs in November 2022, subsequently signing him to a one-year, $1.225 million extension in March.

Alex Ovechkin attended the Stars & Spirits rooftop event held at The View of DC in Rosslyn, VA
Ovechkin took photos with fans, including Capitals T-Shirt Guy Charlie McManus, and mingled with other former players.
The Washington Capitals lost to the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 (SO) in their first preseason game of the new campaign. In front of a half-full Capital One Arena, the Caps debuted a new, more-open, and quicker system under new head coach Spencer Carbery.
The game started sloppy as the matchup came three days into Training Camp for both teams, but the pace and rhythm improved as the action went on.
The Capitals were dealt one setback as veteran, third-pairing defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk was lost late in the third period after taking a shot to his right hand/wrist.

After only three days of on-ice Training Camp, the Washington Capitals will host their first game of the 2023 preseason.
Sunday, the Capitals will take on the Buffalo Sabres at Capital One Arena as Spencer Carbery makes his head coaching debut with the team.
The Capitals will sport a lineup that features a combination of veteran NHL players, minor leaguers, and prospects.
On his way back to DC, Nicolas Aube-Kubel made a special stop in Pennsylvania.
Aube-Kubel was honored by the Lancaster Barnstormers and threw out the ceremonial first pitch ahead of their game against the Staten Island Ferry Hawks.
Except, instead of throwing the baseball, NAK decided to use his hockey stick to get it to the plate.
